Quoted from NPO:We both know that Hoovies Garage was an EXTREME example of a bad DeLorean. Let's not paint the car in a bad image based on that one, singular example. I will agree that they are finicky at first, but they are not horrible cars by any stretch, especially considering they were the charter car of the DeLorean Motor Company.
Any car from the 80s is going to be troublesome as some are nearly 40 years old now. ANY 40 year old car is going to be hit and miss.
You dont buy a DeLorean for speed, that is for sure. You buy it cause it is a DeLorean and you are ready to steal ANY car show or cruise in you go to. If you want an attention getter or a conversation starter, the DeLorean decimates ALL competition. It is easily the most popular car that no one knows nothing about.
And if you want to fix the power problem, do an engine swap like I did.
Engine swap would be the only way to go. The PRV engine in DeLoreans are Horrible. I've worked on a lot of them. What did you swap in?
