Quoted from reynolds531:

They have now started to get a bit of a cult.[quoted image]

That's the biggest understatement I've read in awhile. S2000's have been a cult thing for a very long time. yours looks great and low miles. Keep it and it will only keep rising in value. Not a lot cars can do that, but the S2000 is one of them.

Now that is a rare bird!

Thanks, it not all about going fast, and this ride is pure nostalgia for us. Parts were a nightmare to find; I had to order some stuff straight from Japan. The engine has 485k km, so we’ll probably swap it out for a little bigger one when it dies. I hope the 2L from the pulsar GTIR (baby Godzilla) will fit.

It’s not fast…..but it is fun. I’ve had it out several times in the past month. We’ve had a few nice days in NH. Looking forward to better weather ahead.

Quoted from reynolds531:

Before I retired I worked with some serious car guys. One of them was the sort who went to Munich to pick up his custom M something BMW with a custom colour to match. He races cars on the weekend. He would go on and on about how great the S2000 was. Whenever I see him he wants to know if the S2000 is for sale. Apparently it had some very serious engineering. The engines were "hand made" whatever that means.

I’m something of a car nut and I could bore you with specific details as to what makes an S2000 so great, but suffice to say, it is close to a perfect track car. Everything just feels right and you can rev the heck out of that 2.0 liter 4 cylinder which sounds glorious and is stupid fun. It’s also a good fit for short and tall drivers which is a bit unusual.

As a complete package, it’s one of the greatest cars ever.

This was my daily driver/midlife crisis mobile from a couple of years ago. 2012 Infinity G37 hardtop convertible which I found with only 6k miles on it. Story went the rich guy that owned it garaged it except to drive back and forth to his Florida retreat from Ohio. Probably the nicest vehicle I've ever owned, my only complaint was the infotainment/Bluetooth interface was the worst I've ever used. Watching the top open and close was a show-stopping event which thankfully only broke once while I owned it (and was a minor fix).IMG_0630 (resized).jpgIMG_0630 (resized).jpgMy permanent collector vehicle is this 1951 Ford F-1 pickup truck, a first generation F Series truck. I keep this because I'm a big fan of pickup trucks in general, and in particular most of this era trucks that you see that are still on the road have pretty much been chopped up into hot rods, or modernized in ways that (IMHO) takes away from the historical coolness that they were originally built with. I've cheated a bit with the whitewall tires (no original owner of such a vehicle would have ever put such gaudy things on their work truck), but they look nice and are a bolt on addition at least. This is my DD and absolutely the most fun car I've ever owned.

2019 Civic Type R
306 hp off a 2L engine.

I can get 35 mpg on a road trip or 15mpg if I'm really having fun.

Been a while since i posted, alas still no midlife crisis er i mean weekend fun car yet. Today the wife and i went to Charles Town for breakfast and unbeknownst to us (but knowst to everyone else) there was a car show taking over the main strip. Quite a few different types of cars to see, and a chance to see what vehicles my wife thought were cool. She leans towards the older stuff - old in this case being 60/70’s. It would seem a 70’s muscle car could work. However there were two Vipers there and you know what i finally may of made a breakthrough there. The one she liked was a Gen 3 (2005) convertible in yellow with an interesting back story. Some limited edition version with only 50 made. Apparently all owners were flown in to detroit and put up in a hotel where all 50 were revealed and the keys handed out.

Anyway she said if i could find one under 40k i could go for it. Ugh. Maybe pre 2020 but i do like a challenge! I still prefer the Gen 2 over the Gen 3 just for the clamshell hood. I just want to take my son to a car show and sit there with the hood open all day. This car has the ability to kill me but i do know they started adding in some nanny systems after 2000. I guess i could sell some pins and bring the out of pocket amount down to what she thinks is reasonable for a 20 year old car lol.

Quoted from PoMC:

I like my cars older, inexpensive and a little oddball. 2003 Saab 9-3 SE convertible, one owner and all maintenance records for only $3400, scratched that itch for me.
Our modded 2010 Lexus IS350 is LOUD when you want it to be with the Invidia exhaust. Holy crap, might be the loudest exhaust I've ever had on a vehicle.[quoted image][quoted image]

Don’t sleep on those old saabs. I have a tuned 06 aero sportcombi, and I make bimmers eat shit all day.

Get a 20th anniversary 06 aero baby blue convertible. I think they came in 6 speed auto or manual. 290 hp... but a light tune will bring it to 340-360. They are a blast to drive, real torque steer masters. No problem taking a 25 mph turn at 70.

Born from jets, baby

This is the worst time to get a hobby car. I've heard things have started to correct though, but still "the rent is too damn high"

#325 1 year ago

So today I turo’d a 2022 Camaro SS. 6-speed manual.

It cost me $250…for the entire day. I put 350 miles on it, and filled the tank ($65 to top it off with 93 before drop off), so $315 for the day, all fees included.

I think I just found my new outlet for weekend fun a few times a year. There were C8’s for about $100 more.

All things considered, I call this a bargain.

#326 1 year ago

2014 RAPIDE S will also trade for pinball machines.

So i’ve narrowed it down. Kinda. It’s the classic “pinball decision” where you either go for the gusto and buy that MM you always wanted, or spend the same on a couple B titles like a FT and a BSD. Insert your own made up example, i like all those.

Grail for me is a Gen 2 Viper. Checks pretty well all the boxes including the “will kill you” box. But i could spend about the same on a C3 and a late 70’s Firebird. Will not necessarily go out and buy two at once but if you knew me well you wouldnt be surprised if it happened close together lol. The two car option are cruisin cars. neither will win a race but thats ok to me.

So here is a new poll for those bored of price bubble, Spooky bashing and/or alternate kman account trolling threads…

I'm doing Vegas in a couple of months and we always get a rental. They are still kinda high vs what I've paid in the past. I can get an econobox from Budget for low $400s for the week or I can get a Dodge Challenger from Alamo for ~$520. I hate Budget and have had good luck with Alamo, so Challenger it is.

I own a couple of low mile C3s. Both are very pretty, but I don’t enjoy driving either of them very much.
I don’t own a Firebird, but have driven a ‘79 Trans Am with the 400 engine and was shocked at how much more fun it was than my ‘78 L82 pace car. The Pontiac was stronger, smoother and handled surprising well in comparison.
And whatever car it turns out to be, buy it before life gets in the way.

My son turns 25 in November. He’s a car nut, is a sales manager/marketing guy at the local Jeep dealer, and follows some sports car Youtube guy from PA. The youtube guy had a contest where you could pay $200 to enter the raffle and have a 1 in 1,000 chance to win the Corvette. Everyone who entered got a car poster mailed to them. My son won the Corvette. It’s a really neat car.

This definitely doesn't have the horsepower you're looking for or the noise to piss off the neighbors. It's not about what it has, but rather what it doesn't have. It doesn't have doors, roof, power steering, power brakes, seat belts, ABS, radio and a ton of other stuff. But it's the most fun you can have under 45mph.
[quoted image]

+1 Most fun you can have driving 45 (max) with 60hp.
& It never fails to get more attention @ car events than shiny high dollar rides.
