At least with pinball, if you don't have the time or desire to fix it now, you can just ignore it. My f'ing dryer broke yesterday. If you have a family, you can't ignore that. On a positive note, I do know how to replace drum rollers now.

How do old dryers not catch fire? 9 years worth of hair and lint coated everything below the drum.

Just find a good tech in your area, and pay them to do the work.

Back in the day, I blew shit up, plugged things in wrong, paid local “techs” to repair stuff that they didn’t even repair. You learn fast if you love it.

I’m still learning, but! I largely fix all my own stuff now and can diagnose or figure out why something isn’t working. It takes a long time to know all the x’s and o’s, and experience, it’s not an overnight kind of thing.

There’s nothing more satisfying than when you figure it out and get it working.
I brought a trashed Silverball mania back from the dead by repairing the MPU. That felt great.

New sterns make me nervous because what if it breaks? I keep playing them anyways. Not much you can do hands on if one does break, it’s all in the design now.

I work six days a week for the past 17 years. On the road 2 1/2 hours everyday. I have a TZ that is blowing the 12v circuit without harming the fuse and eats PD and CPU boards. I WILL have time for it eventually. You’d be surprised how patient pinball machines can be.

As for the op, yes stepping back and having one helps a lot. I just sanded through a 900 pf and have to ship it off now to be fixed! So don't feel bad. And yes pinball machines are a play,break, and fix hobbie. Good luck getting them up and going, will always chime in if I can help!

The original post here is another case of a person posting, looking for emotional stability in a pinball forum. I have the same comment for this op, as I had for the op in the "Is Stern Evil" thread. You are more emotionally fragile than most people I come into contact with(male or female). As busy as the op claims to be, I am surprised he carved out the time to create the thread in the first place, much less make several responses afterward. My suggestion is to find an Alderman in your neighborhood, and complain to him(or her).

And sometimes they even fix themselves while you are away. Happens to me quite a bit.

Each pinball manufacturer has it's own system that takes time to learn. Seems like you're attached to your machines but I'm thinking having four machines from four different manufacturers is bound to be overwhelming, especially when you're just starting out.

You may want to consider either shelving or unloading a couple of the non-working games to focus on one. I would recommend starting with the Bally system as that game was working and the problem is probably not that major. There are plenty of people here who can help you when you're ready to look into the problems.

Regardless of which machines you keep or shelve, it's best to start a new thread asking for specific help.

I think you should bring back your original avatar--but that might be what got you off on the wrong foot to begin with...

Also, there's no way you would know this if you haven't been around for a while, but Bryan Kelly's style and humor is short and sweet, usually with expletives.

I don't know him personally, but my impression is he would just keep quiet rather than intentionally insult someone.

Bottom line is some people aren't meant to do certain things. There is a good chance you aren't cut out to own pinball machines.

To The OP: Dude, you NEVER SAY DIE! That's life.

But don't be in such a rush to become a full fledged operator, cause that's what it piratically takes to completely handle a machine on your own. Aside from being a painter, carpenter & lite mechanic most importantly you have to have a understanding of boards. Understanding how to service the boards and harness (opens, shorts continuity) from an operators perspective is the key to success. You must be comfortable testing and replacing transistors, diodes, resistors, bridge rectifiers, capacitors and connectors. And where I've drawn the line is in the IC chips and using a hi/lo probe pretty much the last components on a board that go bad. You can find a board guy or buy new boards, with new components that wont fail for a while and rely on their great warranties. Riottendog and Alltec warranty there stuff for life with $17-$50 fees to replace the boards typically.

He will be fine. He just needs a little guidance from a few pinheads preferably someone close that can help him in person instead of people telling him that he shouldn't own pinball machines. I dont think any of us were pro's starting out and alot of us still arent pro's.

He obviously loves pinball of he wouldn't have bought a new IMDN machine and several other old games. He will be fine. He's just gotta learn to be more patient and not get so mad and he definitely needs to make some friends that knows how to work on games that can help him.
