Quoted from marioparty34:

I wish I could build something like that. I received it as a gift from Lego CEO about 10 years ago. The funny thing is when I first met him, he handed me his 'business card' which was a lego of himself. It blew my mind at the time.

Damn, that's super cool!

#202 2 years ago
Quoted from Wolfmarsh:

Awesome! I have been looking for a good stand for it. I have a few hundred sets, but the vast majority of them are small enough to be shown off in my display cabinets. I was wondering what to do with the Falcon. I've seen a couple wall mounts also that look nice.

I'd be super nervous to put mine on that or a wall mount. It weighs a ton. I "accidentally" found a wooden coffee table with glass top and lower wooden shelf that fit the Falcon perfectly. Safest way to go I think.

You can see it a little bit (under the Falcon in a bottle) in my post #121 on this thread.

Got some Lego minifig keychains for my games the other day. Might be a more directly applicable match if it was for a Star Wars or Lord of the Rings pin, but hey, I think these work pretty well.

If that's true, you need to get your hobbyist verbiage right: It's either "Lego" or "Lego Bricks"; never "Legos". Carry on.

Why hasn't the thread title been corrected?

At one time I had well over 200K pieces. I spent hours building space MOC's, but eventually I just moved on to other things.
As hobbies go ... this one will keep you young at heart !

It’s not LEGO. It’s a Mould King set. You can’t believe the quality. Every bit as good as LEGO. Check out the cockpit. I did a few mods myself.

After playing with it for some 45 years, you kind of get good at it. Here is a straddle carrier Technic model I built... this was my last big Technic model I built during the pandemic lockdown.

Functions:
Front steering
Rear independent steering (allows crabbing)
Forward/Reverse
Container cradle up and down with independent left and right (allows leveling of cradle)
Container capture/release
Control cab extend/retract
Control cab rotate left/right

Uses 9 motors, 5 IR transceivers, 2 battery boxes

It’s Wobb Bricks. I have bought probably 6 MouldKing kits and they all have been great. They have the best prices I have seen and they have free shipping and no sales tax.
They have a lot of brands I have not tried but the MouldKing are as good as LEGO and a third of the price. Also they ship really fast. Most have came in one week from China.

#223 2 years ago

YourWOBB.com is a great seller with shipping included and very reliable for buying custom sets and knock-off lego sets. He also has a website https://www.joytoyworld.com/collections/bricks-toys with other sets.

I like buying custom sets, like the giant soundwave transformer set. https://www.yourwobb.com/products/sixsix-bricks-662-soundwave?_pos=1&_sid=b31ea7c47&_ss=r&variant=39917682950300

#229 2 years ago

no titantic for me... same reason I don't have the star destroyer... no place to keep it together.

The Falcon is the biggest set I keep setup.

I'm really curious how big the UCS AT-AT is going to be.

I haven't built the Gunship yet, mainly because I know space for it is a problem. The other ships I have on the wall. I have wall mounts that let me keep the UCS Slave I, XWing, YWing, and AWing all on the wall.. freeing up lots of shelf space

No, it's a King set I bought on Joytoy which is a parent company of Wobb Bricks for $94. It's a copy of of the Lego 75060 which isn't made anymore and is going for up to $600 now. No way am I paying that.

Those are really neat-did you make those yourself? Probably something I could 3d print now that I think about it. I've got most of my big Star Wars sets on those floating Ikea shelves, or on top of the filing cabinets in my office:

From Walmart.com I ordered a Lego Star Wars AT-AT set as a gift for a friend for $146.00. It took a long time to arrive, and when it did - it is a couterfeit set built in China!

It has no Lego logo and no Star Wars logo (though it does have a small label that says "Empire Strikes Back"). Instead of Star Wars it says "Galaxy of Heroes", though the rest of the box (pictures etc.) looks to be copied directly from the original.

I called Walmart customer service, but the girl (who barely spoke english) could not seem to understand that this is not just a simple case of "requesting a return". Her supervisor is supposed to "call me back soon", but I doubt that will happen. I also sent an email to Walmart.com but haven't heard back from them either.

Apparently this was sold by a 3rd party through the Walmart.com site (though I didn't realize it at the time). I don't know how this is going to play out yet, but it will be interesting to see.

I wonder if our local NBC station (that makes a big deal about their consumer affairs reporting) would be interested in a story of "Walmart Selling Counterfeit Toys from China at Christmas".

I’ve had lego since I was young. I don’t buy many sets anymore but when I do it’s mostly Technic. The dragster was my first Technic set. I rotate the sets displayed in my game room.

My step daughter got pretty big into Legos there for awhile. During her stint, I bought her a 911 set since I have a white 911. She sat on it for about 9 months. After I got my Covid booster I was pretty wiped out and sat and did it myself. I really, really enjoyed it, but the last thing I need is another hobby haha. I'm holding off on another purchase, but really badly want the NES system with the tube TV and controller set.

#242 2 years ago

The new space shuttle is a cool build. It was really fiddly for much of the wing build but solidified at the end and is really sturdy now.

Re: walmart… yes their website has tons of BS 3rd party sellers. Best to filter the sellers to walmart immediately on every search.

I took a chance with buying from zavvi on Black Friday- still waiting to see how that pans out

Started into building the new AT-AT this weekend, and it's huge! Got up to assembling the legs. There's some brilliant stuff here with gears holding the legs rigid, but using an adjustment tool to change the position for display:

It looks so great, though I think price wise it's where I would rather have it cost $100 more if it had been motorized to some extent, or had the option to buy an add on.

Just pulled out the first batch of my old collection for cleaning and potential sale. Anybody have advice on selling? It's a near complete collection of Space sets from Classic to Insectoids (when they initially stopped the theme). Lots of Europe/Japan only sets and "super models". No boxes but almost all instructions are in excellent shape. I'm a bit afraid that once I start cleaning and organizing I won't want to sell. Brings back some great memories.

I gave away my collection of Lego pieces from the 1960s (several large cookie tins) to a neighbor who had 3 kids and is struggling on a teachers salary. While the kids were appreciative, the oldest asked if there were any Techniques in there. I told him sorry no, as that is a recent thing. He then asked what the Legos made. I told him, anything his imagination came up with.

I sold off all my childhood Legos many years ago. It was mostly space sets from the 80's and they sold extremely well. I imagine they would be even more desirable today. I recommend building all the sets best you can, document what pieces are missing/broken if any, and take lots of pics. Sell sets individually. I kind of wish I kept some sets but had my fun with them.

Thanks, I really enjoyed going through some of them last night and getting them cleaned up. They will be tough to part with if I go that route. Most were acquired before the internet and some in the Usenet days. Was quite a task hunting them down back then. I was probably around 10 or 11 when some how I figured out that they had different sets in Europe. I think it was because they showed an extra space ship or two in the layout pictures on some boxes. Our neighbor who was from Sweden gave me a name of a big toy store over in Europe and I was able to write them requesting info. Turns out they did indeed have more sets over there and they would be willing to ship to the US. I can still remember the day the package finally arrived! Same feeling when my Jolly Park arrived from CA. Ahh that grail pin feeling! Getting back on track, there were a few sets already discontinued so I had to wait until Usenet started up and them was able to obtain them. Prices were SUPER crazy back then, but I had some other sets to trade, so I did okay. Once ebay showed up the prices on the Europe only stuff plummeted. After the Insectoids subtheme they discontinued the Space theme so I stopped collecting. They evetuallly started it up again but I didn't get back into buying. Eventually my parents wanted to redo their basement, so I took down the giant layout and boxed everything up. I had been out of the house for a while so that was okay with me. No good place to put them in our house so it might be time for them to go to a new home.
