Quoted from HighVoltage:

Oh yeah, I got a few of those too! Ha. Anyone need anything? I sold a bunch at Christmas, the problem is, I can't help buying a bunch when they're on sale and/or if they're too cool to resist. Had to have that Flintstones one. I really liked the LoTR sets, have the whole series, including Tower of Orthanc.

Do you have the old fishing store? #21310. I’ll be a buyer if the price is right

My kids have all of mine from the 80s and then all of theirs from the past 10 years. The room is full.

It was more fun then. You'd build something, break it down and build something again...and again. Now it's buy a kit, build following directions and never touch it again.

That's not true, at least for me and my family. We have way too many sets to display them all, so we have 5 very large totes full of loose bricks from all the torn apart sets. We routinely dump a tote on the den floor and play for a few hours making space ships and houses and stuff.

#106 4 years ago

Lol, saw this on Slickdeals, and bought it, um, for my daughter, yea, not for me

This looks like a fun challenge for my next build:

The black shelves; details please. I’m looking for something like that to put the modular buildings on.
Please and thanks.

Just standard shelving from Home Depot. It's all modular. Screw the verticals into the wall and position the brackets as needed. The shelves come in lengths of 2', 3', and 4'.

Awesome to build with my son. We have built the Death Star together, Voltron and many other sets.

He is six and it is is impressive that he can basically build the sets by himself.

Currently working with him on the roller coaster.

I built the millennium Falcon by myself last year. I find it relaxing. I basically crunch numbers and deal with people’s crap for a living, so it is nice to do something with my hands and just relax.

Also at our vacation home I have the Death Star and the Disney Castle my wife made on rotating displays on top of our kitchen cabinets. I have LEDs lighting them up as well. It is pretty cool.

I agree, and I often describe Lego as my version of therapy. At work, and in life in general, you are faced with a never ending stream of decisions to make - it’s nice to occasionally just sit down and follow instructions without having to think too much.

+1 for this...… freestyling! Hours of enjoyment!

Both partly true! I sell a lot, but at this Festival for World Relief charity fund raiser. That way I can justify buying more and say it's for a good cause! LOL!

I buy a ton of Hot Wheels too, I can't resist when they hit 0.50 or less... they're also a big seller at the fund raiser: kids love my table.

Don't have that one. Looks cool.

I have a huge space Lego collection. Basically a complete space collection from Insectoids back. Unfortunately no good place to display, so thinking of selling. Would trade for the right pin (ideally Oktoberfest) if anybody is interested.

Quoted from pinzrfun:

Those appear to be just standard slotted channel iron and shelving from Home Depot/Lowes etc. Different length supports are available for different width shelving. For our mad scientist lab I bought and stained some wood a dark brown. I like how he has the different elevations -
Since these don't weigh a ton, floating shelves would be an option too - they come in all different lengths and colors - we have a few in the game room bathroom.

What is that interesting lit rack to the left of Cassandra ?

Quoted from lpeters82:

It wasn't too bad. I ordered a set from eBay that was listed as "incomplete" but seemed to have most of the larger pieces. I want to say it was $75. I sorted everything and placed and then placed a few orders from Bricklink to make it complete. I am still missing some of the authentic sails, but I was able to buy some matching fabric to create my own set.

I'm thinking of the black seas barracuda, few hundred dollars at least for those I thought. 75 sounds like a sweet deal.

#116 4 years ago

I just ordered the Saturn 5.

Got a pic of my VW bus, that one took a bit of effort. The VW and Tron cycles are the only two that are mine, but there are tons of others around here, including the Yellow Submarine and Beatles here.

I was in Walmart yesterday, and noticed some Christmas sets scattered around. City Advent Calendar was $15. There were other sets half price too: some Lego Movie ones. These aren't marked: need to price check.

I posted this in the other Lego thread, but since this one seems more active I'll post it here for any Lego fans as well. Like anything Lego it's expensive, but I thought this was pretty cool:

https://www.lego.com/en-us/product/nintendo-entertainment-system-71374?CMP=EMC-SAH-20200717EXCNESANNOUNCEMENT_Variant_A_10016&HQS=HEROCTA_EN&RRID=15145120262&RMID=SAH_2020_07_17_EXC_NES_ANNOUNCEMENT_A_GL

Per the release, "with authentic reproductions of the original console, controller and Game Pak cartridge, plus a retro-styled 1980s TV, the exclusive new LEGO® Nintendo Entertainment System™ gives fans of Super Mario Bros.™ a way to recapture childhood magic."

Coming August 1st, 2020. I hope they make other retro gaming systems as well...

Any local pinsider interested in these?
The box weighs 18 1/2 pounds.
What would be a fair price?

Count me among those who love Lego as well. Would jump at a Lego licened pin.

#131 3 years ago

A LEGO pin would have some cool potential. They could have part of the backbox lego plated so you could build onto it.

#132 3 years ago

Season 2 of Lego Masters Australia was amazing. If you look hard enough you can find it.

#133 3 years ago

If I had the space, I’d be that guy with a full size LEGO train setup hahaha... as it is I have three or four shelves full of Pirate, Simpson’s, and Scooby sets. Used to love picking up those minifig packs at the Walmart and Target checkouts back when I could leave the house.

Quoted from JRBBRJ:

That would be cool, actually all you would need to do is attach (glue, or?) base plates onto the top of the backbox, then from there you could build whatever topper you want. Those possibilities are endless! In fact it makes me wonder, has anyone built toppers for other machines from Legos?

#135 3 years ago

I love Legos, and wouldn't it be cool to have a working Lego pinball?

Next covid pass time, sort LEGO by colour. I think I will need another storage cabinet or two. There’s more technic LEGO in the back blue Rubber made tub too.

Pro tip: After you’ve sorted by color, you’re going to go crazy trying to find the exact smaller pieces you’re looking for when they are mixed with identically colored bigger pieces. It’s much easier if you sort by size bc you can easily see the differences in color when you’re looking in a container. (That said, if you have your 1x1s, 1x1 plates, 2x1s, and misc various 1x1 and 2x1 specialty bricks all mixed up, it’s still annoying to sort through)

This is a MOC that I made a few years ago. I used fan guides for building the sphere and then added the continents myself. I keep it in my pinball room right now, but if you’ve seen my latest “Cats and Pinball” posts you may have seen our newest family member who’s been sending the globe flying every other day. So right now there’s loose brick rattling around on the inside of it. Oops!

Wow, enjoying seeing everyone’s collections and a blast from the past. I was big into it as a kid. I had both auto chassis’s, many technic sets from 80’s, many of the buildings (my first set was one I got when I was 6 or 7 for Christmas: Police Station) and random other sets.

My brother and I got some train stuff when we moved out here from State College when Kiddie City was still open in King of Prussia.

I wonder if I still have some of them...

Major problem with Legos: just like puzzles what do you do with them when completed? You put them on a shelf and they collect lots of dust.

My children got into them and then we found a whole room had them all over the place. The worst part: all that plastic began off gassing this horrible and dangerous smell, really noticeable on humid days in particular. We have been cured of further building and collecting and feel healthier as a result, lol.

Contacted Lego and they said they are trying to find a more nontoxic formula. Wish they still made them out of wood.

Quoted from Thunderbird:

what do you do with them when completed?

Put the instructions aside for safe keeping.

Smash the creation into little bits. Put all the pieces together and build something else.

I’ve built the Death Star twice now. The second time took over 40 hours because of time sifting through bins looking for that one piece.

#144 3 years ago

Ive been getting a few of the Mold King pieces, simply for savings.
The quality has been say 90% of Lego, at a low cost with shopping.
This Christmas the Family will build a Botanical Garden, as the granddaughter might be able to help putting the 2 and 3 piece flowers together.
Lights, Book, and shipping, 2147 pieces, it was on sale at $69.

Giving this a bump as I had some time to get mine dug out.

Finding it’s harder to build mostly complete sets when they’re mostly complete! Got the 2nd Gen auto chassis together as it was together the most.

And here I thought I had an adult LEGO problem. I started building LEGO bricks in 1964 while my Dad (USAF) was stationed in England. Mostly back then you could only build a house. Then for xmas, they came out with wheels, so that you could make a small square car. So far, I have built the Ship in a Bottle, the James Bond Aston Martin, the Mustang and the Fast and Furious Dodge Charger.
