Anyone who knows me at all knows that I'm a rabid purist when it comes to originality. That being said, I am not strongly opposed to modifications which aren't easily reversible. How easily reversible is this? Well, as long as I have both games, I can switch them back, but I think each of these games look WAY better in each other's cabinets.
I'd feel a little better about this swap if the cabinets were from the same era, but they do have a few minor structural differences.
I recently acquired a Gottlieb "Gypsy Queen". I've had this "Guys Dolls" for about a year, and although it does play, the backglass is trashed, and the only thing I like about it is the cabinet.
I looked at both games, and wanted to see what they would look like in each other's cabinets. I think I like it!
    What say you?

    Ask Steve Young at PBR!

    #3 1 year ago

The Gottlieb manufacturing and engineering department would be proud of you for swapping out cabinets. Each game looks much better in its new skin. I like it!

I sent my brother photos. He was working at PBR tonight and may have shown them to Steve. So far, he hasn't called me and torn my head off!

LOL would love to hear Steve go off on that!

I think that it looks fine..that gypsy queen looks like a fun game.

I like it the backglass and playfields look good in each other's cabinets. The color combos work well together. Em guys are entitled to some mods also.

Strange how they both match better in the other ones cabinet..
I'd leave it and like you say, just hang onto both games..
Jungle's staying where it is. Looks too good to make right..

    #9 1 year ago

    Some more full-on photos.
I think this is a no-brainer. They both look much better this way. What do you think?

Interesting. The colors do go well together.

    #11 1 year ago

I like them better switched. Interesting.

    #12 1 year ago

I think Gypsy Queen looks equally good in either CAB,
but Guys Doll does look lots better in the switched CAB.
Does it bother me that they are not original? Nah!
But if you resell, just let the new buyer be aware.

    #13 1 year ago

Or put them back in the cabs before selling.

I would want the original cab that belongs with the game if I was buying it.

    #14 1 year ago

The color schemes do work a lot better after the swap, and that's coming from a fellow purist.

    #15 1 year ago

I like the swap. Keep it like that!

I agree. I do think they are interesting swapped and if a game came to me that way I would probably be ok with it. Still given the option I'd rather have it in the original cab.

At the Chicagoland show one year I saw a Sittin' Pretty in a wedgehead cabinet. It looked kind of cool, like a totally different game. Still an original would be worth more to me.

These are your games do what you want, life is short enjoy them. I would bet less than 5 Pinsiders could recognize the cabinet swap, with out using the IPDB as a reference.

Hey, they're your machines, and I like the swap too!

I've always felt that way too. It bums me out to see any antique chopped up. That's why I don't like street rods.

Hmm. I'm thinking about shopping the "Guys Dolls", getting a new glass, and bringing it to the Pinfest show for free play and sale. I really love it's original cabinet, so I really think I'm going to keep it for the "Gypsy Queen". OH, SACRILEGE!!!

    #20 1 year ago

    I like it ...

    #21 1 year ago

The "Queen" deserved that cabinet. I would pay more than original for this setup if I was in the Market.

    #22 1 year ago

Most definitely the best thing about "Guys Dolls" is the cabinet art. I think it's very attractive.

You might regret it. "Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow - but soon, and for the rest of your life."

The colors look better with the swap.

Are you bringing Gypsy Queen to Allentown?
