I just move to Salem OR from Bakersfield CA this summer.
So was curious how much my utilities charges might change.
I have Gas water heater and gas fired forced air heating.
Electric Stove/range and electric clothes dryer.
No A/C (No real need in Oregon, though this summer was supposedly the hottest in years.)
These past 4-5 months since June, have seen reasonable bills
    Electric has averaged $80/mo
    Gas has averaged $20/mo .
Note: house is 2 story with full finished basement (~4700 sqft total)
(we have not used gas furnace heater yet,
but come November probably will start using it,
as wood burning fireplace probably will not be enough to heat the house.)
Biggest bill and surprise was the water/sewer bill averaging $150/mo
in part due to having to water my 0.67 acre yard.
Sewer charged is based on total water usage.
Stopped watering the lawn, now that rainy season is here ( and hot dry summer is gone)
hoping water/sewer bill will drop to <$100/mo.
Still way too high IMHO, (for somewhere it rains 50in a year)
especially when in Bakersfield (where we only average 6in of rain per yr,
my water bill was only $60/mo in Summer and $30/mo in winter

    Quoted from mcluvin:

switched out all my bulbs to LED

I got about 2 dozen spotlight recessed ceiling (incandescent) type bulbs,
in my finished basement (gameroom) and kitchen.
I want to switch over to LED, but shopping around they ain't cheap.
    anywhere from $12-25 per bulb.
Anyone know where i can buy in bulk for cheap, hopefully for <$10 per bulb?
How long before you think the price will drop to $5 per bulb?

    Quoted from Leeb18509:

Generally you want to install panels as close to South facing as you can for maximum production.

I have thought about installing solar, but unfortunately much of my property is surrounded by 40-50ft trees shading most of my rooflines.

    Quoted from mcluvin:

I often find deals on on LEDs at http://www.slickdeals.net .

    thanks will check it out
