So the other night my wife tells me I am obsessed with pinball and addicted to pinside in particular. So to prove that I am not addicted to pinside I told her I would go cold turkey for 30 days. So as of Jan 1, 2017 I am going to see if I can take a 30 day hiatus. I may try to sneak a peek on the Tilt forum however... So here's the poll question - can you stay of pinside for 30 consecutive days???
yes just sticking a finger in the wind to see how strong the breeze is...
2017 seemed like a good time because there is just too much going on in the world of pinball right now for me to miss out on if I agreed to do it say this coming january...

Yes I play in the columbus pinball league (the one Therese and Trent run) when I can make it is 40% of the time if I am lucky...

Probably not but there is no room with thousands of dollars of machines sitting around because of facebook....
Ok 6 months away from my 30 day hiatus. Not sure if I will be able to do it. I have been really tearing it up recently posting a lot and obsessing over my lineup... I only bring it up now since she just reminded me about the 30 day hiatus come January 1, 2017.
That raises a technical point - it was to be for 30 days starting Jan 1 but Jan has 31 days in the month. Debate on this issue may unfortunately preclude any pinside blackout till the time frame is resolved...

Good queation, never specifically spelled out but I believe the implication was a complete cessation of all pinball or pinball related activities such as Pinside.
New hobby: eating fried chicken while drinking beer and watching porn. Then pinball will be welcomed back and perhaps even embraced as she will soon realize it could ALWAYS be worse...
Hahahaha - just kidding will probably take up boating or r/c airplanes -something where I can throw money into a hole with no hope of seeing it again so at least it feels similar to pinball.
See I really think that we will get there - as soon as she understands that of the many forms a midlife crisis can take becoming a pinhead who hangs in the basement surrounded by his beloved pins is not the worst thing that could happen...
Full throttle wide open baby!!! I anticipate that the withdrawal will be bad with the shakes and sweats, etc but hopefully won't kill me.

Well of course I am, but not sure what admitting it would prove or accomplish. I have pinside up at work, check it on my phone when I am not at my desk, etc. Sometimes check things if I wake up at 2am...

I did negotiate 1 game of pinball per day into the deal. It may have to be a 10 ball game with unlimited extra ball but hey whatever. If I cared to cure myself of pinball then it is no pinside and Ironman set to papa level difficulty 3 ball game no extras. But I don't mind being a pinhead.

Wisdom there. As of midnight tonight pinside will have 1 less daily visitor. I am off pinside entirely till Sep1. No sneaking peeks - absolutely no cheating.
6 weeks away. Nothing big will likely happen in that time anyways. So tonight as of midnight I'm out.
Ok so I gotta:
1. Clear my web browser of favorites, hx and all cookies so I am not temped to click on it.
2. Take the mobile app off of my phone.
3. Find something to look at other than the depressing news... Love the video game idea.
4 hrs and 24 mins till going dark, then it is T-minus 45 days and counting

I'd also remind her you could be spending your time doing a lot worse. Hookers, Blow, Strip Clubs, Drinking all the time (not that that's a bad thing). It's something you enjoy.

Did this - sort of - Got a couple of auto traders and announced that I would start restoring cars instead of modding pins. She wasn't too thrilled at the idea of an old firebird (the red dragon ala Old School - "took off the restrictor plate - it's not exactly street legal so keep it on the down-low")
So bet is off and I am back after 24 hrs. She is doesn't want my games to expand outside of my cave which tops me out at 8-9 games, but I can deal with that. In fact, it keeps me engaged as I am always looking for the next game to freshen up the collection. So celebrating my return to pinside by ordering a NIB Metallica Monsters Premium...
So what I figured out was that Pinside / Tilt Forum are a big part of the fun of this hobby to me.
