I have noticed that new pinsiders get very few responses while the same question from a seasoned pinsider will get a much larger response rate.Is there a snob factor or feeling of superiority on this site .I am a master chess player and love the game. The chess people seem to be much more friendly the pinballers. It is surprising.

    #2 5 years ago

I really haven't noticed that. Perhaps nobody knew the answer to the question.

I try to respond ( I need to be on thou and know the fix)

    #4 5 years ago

I don't think anyone will answer it "snob factor". I see no issues.

    #5 5 years ago

Moved to Pinside website sub forum.

The more seasoned members have more friends here than new members. The longer you are here the more people you meet in person. These people are more likely to take the time to talk to you (unless you are scary!).

Sometimes they just create really bad threads:

Alot of the info is already out there on RGP or Pinside or elsewhere. Before you go asking, what wax should I use? Why not search and read the 500 other threads that have already went over it already

Pinside is also super popular, and threads get buried FAST...

I posted a question 1 hour ago and am the only thread that has gotten a single response.Every thread posted after me has gotten a response. This happens all the time.I have also noticed this from other newbies with questions. To me it not a very friendly community and I see nasty responses all the time.

Its customary to offer vajazzlers in exchange for info on repair, maybe that is why? Not sure....

Im also a master baiter and that group is much nicer too.

A good question but I don't think it's a good comparison. I'm fairly new - I've always gotten good responses from good questions I have asked. But I may get less response on just topics where I'm not really in need of anything, than a seasoned pinsider may get. But comparing pinside to a chess website is not apples to apples. You spend much repair time on your chess sets? How many chess sets do you own? Are you in competition with thousands of others on purchasing specific new ones for your collection? This websites great, but certainly not perfect. Give it some time.

I looked at some of your post and you seem to start a thread and just abandon it, if you want people to invest time into a thread at least have the courtesy to be a part of the conversation.

I had a college intramural softball team called the master batters

Guy! "1 hour ago" Most of us are talking about football and other stuff. Maybe you give it time and bump after a day or more. Sorry you can't get your tech support within the hour.

    #14 5 years ago

Well, you are getting plenty of responses on this topic. What else do you want to discuss?

I just searched for your post, its sunday night, late late evening for central/east coast guys, and late evening. I had to read the topic line 4 times to figure out what u meant.

1 hour of waiting on a late Sunday night is fairly impatient imo

I mean no offense but have you considered that no one has an answer or thought to your post? Or that maybe they aren't interested in the discussion? Just walking into a room and announcing a topic in real life doesn't guarantee you a conversation - the same happens on a forum.

No response doesn't mean unfriendly - if you want unfriendly dive into a "JJP/Stern is the worst evar" thread

you are right chess and pinball are very different but what is your point?.Im saying that in chess forums questions are always answered and and the people are nicer.I look at threads and there is almost always fighting.Everyone is trying to defend themselves but fact my thread was the only one in the last hour not to be responded to.Maybe you would be better served to take the top 200 members and make this a private forum.

    #19 5 years ago

My profile page has my name, my location, etc. - I think that's friendly

    #20 5 years ago

No one is forcing you to come here....

    #22 5 years ago

So yes, this website may be a little more intense than your chess one. But it's been a great information source for me and this wonderful hobby. Learn to use it to your advantage

    #23 5 years ago

I think this is the best forum I have been on. Been on forums since 1996.

    Cool, top 200 member fight!
The cool kids already have a private forum over @ JJP Google, and really it isn't much nicer, no matter what they say about us (I'm on both)
I think this site is very friendly, taken with enough alchohol. (hic)
Very friendly and helpful people for the most part, but like wizards and dragons, we are quick to anger and snide commentary. Thick hide is recommended.

    #25 5 years ago

Im sorry I take it all back. You guys are right

    #26 5 years ago

I'm saying this just as a matter of fact - not being a wise ass - try doing some of the things suggested by pinside for new members, i.e. - on your profile page your name/location/collection/wishlist/game rankings/background story/ - you have offered none of this info about yourself. I'm not saying you should have to, but why not?

    #27 5 years ago

I mean, if I'm ever in Corvallis, I'm lookin' up dapinhead

    #28 5 years ago

The master bater line was great.I thought it was funny the first time I heard it when I was 10 years old and I still get a kick out of it.

    #30 5 years ago

It was truly our softball team name in college

    #29 5 years ago

What question wasn't answered? Something about pizza and X-Men?

Why was it necessary to identify yourself as a "Master" chess player in your comparison? Would it matter if you were merely a novice, for purposes of your story?

What is your favorite Beach Boys song?

Your topic title didn't pull people in. If you called it "need help.........." you might have answers. Talking pizza isn't going to pull people in. Please don't meltdown because of this.

Yeah I heard, read the thread cuz you are cool! Congrats

    #46 5 years ago

Was this about having to wait an hour and 10 minutes for a response to a question about how to attract more people to a bar to play pinball? Or was there a question in the pizza thread, announcing that XM was at a pizzeria in NYC?

    #47 5 years ago

I always liked sloop john b

feeling entitled to a free marketing lesson within an hour seems to cover it.
