Finally getting back to trying to fix my Target Pool machine...

I was pretty positive that I had narrowed down the problem (machine not starting a game) as an issue with the "Ball Count Unit", so I decided to take this bastard apart.

I removed the wiper disc and suddenly noticed the snowshoes just fell right out of the disc. Whoops!

I guess we've found the answer...

And if you look at the photo, the wiper disc looks like the face of a bear. A relieved bear that can finally get some damn rest knowing the problem has been found.

Your welcome Mr. Bear.

OMG you have a Target Pool! My lost love!

We picked up it a little after Thanksgiving last year. It's a wonderful story on how lucky we were.

It's my wife's favorite EM (her dad has one at his house in Philly) and so she set up a CraigslistBuddy search account for "Target Pool".

After months of no luck she was just randomly browsing on Craigslist, searching for pinball machines, and came across a listing for sale of a pin called "Pinball Party". Turns out it was "Target Pool" -- the seller didn't know what he was trying to get rid of.

We called as soon as she saw it, drove to the dude's home and picked it up. One of our best purchase stories so far. Got it for dirt cheap as it's broken all-to-hell but it's a fun project and I can't wait until it's running.

Fun times indeed.

O.K., It's official. You have been working too hard on this.
Nice to see that you are getting it working.

I'm not sure how the follower pins coming out of the wiper are an issue.

They are normally held in place by jumper wire soldered to the outside end. Without this connection they can fall right out once you remove the wiper. There is a spring associated with each follower. Don't lose it.

From your picture the two on the left should be jumpers together and the one on the right should be connected to the grounded solder tab which it appears to be.

I don't think the wiper disc connections on the Ball Count unit will prevent it from starting a game (FWIW).

I was 16-17 in the mid early 70's with drug problem. One day my parents said that I need something to take my mind off drugs. They asked if a pinball machine would be enough to take my mind off of things. "Yea sure! ) was my reply. A Target Pool of about 5 years old appeared in our house.

Whether or not it was "enough" of a distraction is another story. But I got my hands all in that machine and loved every moment of it, before it eventually got resold.

I just got to play the crap out of the one that was used for Classics in the PAPA Circuit event at Louisville Arcade Expo. It is one of my favorite EMs, if not the favorite. So much luck AND skill involved in one game! When it is set on 5 ball, tilt ends game, and the tilt is very tight, now that is an adrenaline rush!

Love my Target Pool. It was one of my first pinballs and my first EM.

I learned a lot on this project with the help of Pinside members and a LOT of reading and research.

Good luck getting your machine playing.

Here's a couple pics to help motivate you.

Ok now I'm *SICK* with jealousy.

Here is my TP and my old friend Doug Smith. My TP was only about 5 years old back then... and I had hair. Guess I'm messing with some relays here:
