Well, 3.5. I have one bad coil. Need to borrow a replacement from a buddy....

2014-03-20 08.13.16.jpg2014-03-20 08.13.16.jpgMade it into work and totally forgot I ordered these..new magnet cores...
Old ones had a nice little ball trail through them and since I'm putting in a new clear ramp they are going to be more visible. Money well spent

Eew...nasty gumball machine!

looking good

Getting there! Tonight my step-son is having a gaggle of teenagers over so I will likely have a few hours to hide in the basement and get some work done...probably get the bottom of the playfield buttoned up and start on the top side!

Subway is the fun first part....it needs a lot of scrubbing love...

I love what you are doing and appreciate you sharing it on this thread.

Thank you for bringing this righteous game back from the dead!

#209 10 years ago

No worries. I'm glad others enjoy it. I mostly like to be able to look back and see what I did. It's nice to be able to see the progress.

Tonight should be good. Once the new ramp is installed things will be happening!

2014-03-22 09.02.01.jpg2014-03-22 09.02.01.jpgThis is how I know I'm getting towards the end...my baggies are getting sparse...

Still need to repopulate the new ramp and totally tackle the mini playfield.

And of course the entire cabinet needs to be put together when it comes back to me. But progress...!

And I keep reminding myself that I never saw this machine work, so I may have a long road ahead of me tracking down issues. Who knows what boards may need love or how many dead optos I have....

This game can be fun to shop, but restoring it is actually quite painful.

Then I would do the happy dance and move onto the next project!

2014-03-22 13.27.27.jpg2014-03-22 13.27.27.jpgSo I knew this was melty...
I pulled the plastic off pretty easily, but as soon as I touched the bulb it shattered in my hand and I spent time waiting for the bleeding to stop..

#221 10 years ago

New slot machine plastic. Do you think I should have gotten the new one or kept the original? I could have called it a prototype

New part for the powerfield diverter. I thought the original one looked a little short!

New lockdown receiver. Think I should have gotten the new one or just kept the original?

And yes, that's sarcastic.

2014-03-22 17.39.10.jpg2014-03-22 17.39.10.jpgTonight's project if I feel up to it...new ramp (minus the sneeze guards). Not a big fan of them.

I love the clear ramp. It looks so much better on TZ. Brightens up the back of the playfield quite a bit.

I'm suspicious of your "amber" bumper cap... looks mighty orange to me.

#227 10 years ago

Orange I like, but it should be swapped with yellow. The software is coded this way for skill shot.

#228 10 years ago

Ill play around with musical pop caps

Last night it got closer to becoming a pinball machine...

2014-03-23 18.47.05.jpg2014-03-23 18.47.05.jpg
#229 10 years ago

And I figured i should clean up the powerfield. I almost don't even need to! Here's a shot of it once I undid the topside items. Yet again proof that this machine did not lead a hard life!

Unfortunately two of the switches were missing their actuators, but new ones are on the way!

#230 10 years ago

they probably were not good players and never made it to the mini playfield

#231 10 years ago

Cabinet didn't make it home last night, so I puttered around with some other stuff.

Pinbits package came so I no longer can have people tell me i lost my marbles....
They didn't make it into the gumball machine yet though.

2014-03-24 19.00.21.jpg2014-03-24 19.00.21.jpg 2014-03-24 19.00.26.jpg2014-03-24 19.00.26.jpg
#232 10 years ago

I also picked up the "lost flasher" board from them. So TZ originally had a spot picked out for two flashers under the door panel. Lots of optional mods out there to put it back including a whole replacement board, but this pinbits one perfectly fit the bill. Connected into factory location, perfect wiring harness and even came with zip ties. You would never know it didn't come from the factory!

2014-03-24 19.14.01.jpg2014-03-24 19.14.01.jpg 2014-03-24 19.24.59.jpg2014-03-24 19.24.59.jpg
#233 10 years ago

And last but not least, a partially put back together mini playfield. One of the switches was missing its actuator, so I'm waiting on a replacement.

Little stuff, but significant!

And I had help.

#236 10 years ago

This is amazing. Considering what you started with, there is no way I thought you'd end up with a machine this nice. Good job.

#237 10 years ago

The ability to see through the filth is a good one to have

#238 10 years ago

gumball machine looks great.........but can you find a chrome screw and washer for the front.

#239 10 years ago

Yeah, I was debating about that. I probably can, but it's easy enough to get to later. I can't justify a whole order just for those.

Although home depot....

#240 10 years ago

Or you could buff the existing ones... a buffing wheel and rouge would make them pretty shiny I bet.

#242 10 years ago

Did some ramp work last night.

Old ramp was nasty. Just nasty. Clear sneeze guards were definitely a long ways from clear.

And yes, I have gecko lounge pants

2014-03-27 19.40.38.jpg2014-03-27 19.40.38.jpgTime to align some flippers!

This just looks weird, but it works...flipper alignment tool and stuff...

#245 10 years ago

Powerfield back in. Kind of. I'm waiting on one switch before I can finish it back in place. One wireform back too.

Honestly I'm really really close to being done, but without cabinet, I'm kind of drawing it out....

Not to mention once it's powered on I'm sure I'm going to have a TON of bad switches and other issues to work through...this machine hasn't been played in a decade....

Gettin there! Just hoping the cabinet finds its way back home soon!

#248 10 years ago

If you want a blue clock housing pinballlife has them pretty cheap compared to what they used to cost.
In my opinion the blue looks the best.

#249 10 years ago

I may go that route. My original one had ventilation holes drilled in it. Was hoping to be able to leave the clock as-is. I may leave it for a later project since it was actually working when I tested it two weeks back on a friend's TZ. The clock is one of the easier things to remove from the playfield...

But I may pick up that blue housing just because it IS a good price!
