People joke about California and our strict environmental laws, but if you actually visited, you would see that we have massive refineries and chemical plants everywhere billowing out all kinds of toxins. If you lived in socal in the 70's and 80's as I did, you would remember how horrible the air quality was and how it was getting much worse every year. I remember leaded supreme gasoline. The corner of my backyard still has a cement foundation and a hole where the remnants of an incinerator still remain. If California did nothing, noone would be able to live here today. The air here still sucks in comparison to most of the states that have little environmental protections, and of course the rural south where you couldn't pay me enough to live. If you guys from smaller, insignificant states had as many polluting culprits as we have here, I guarantee you that you would be voting for the Green Party.
