Not only are we 5 miles from the coast, we are on a low level lot that is in the flood zone, on the river. Watching updates every time one comes out.
Just keep thinking, go to the East, go to the East.
Quoted from Pinball-is-great:Dantina,
Is your place 2-story? Hav u cleared valuables out of lower level? Storm surge could be a problem.
Are there any large trees that could fall on house and damage roof?
We are a large single story. When the house was built 15 years ago, it was out of the flood zone. But they changed the maps a few years ago, now we are 2 feet lower then the high the flood zone. We have about 10 LARGE oaks on the property. Few large branches over the house. At high tide earlier today had water from the river in the back yard. The 11 PM has the storm a bit East which is good. The city is like a ghost town. Many of the businesses downtown on the river are boarded up.
All this, and we are still pushing to get some prototypes finished for Expo.
The air is perfectly calm now, in 24 hours, could be 100 miles per hour.
Quoted from pinbum:Is this rise from rain or tidal surge ? Be safe!
Not sure, I would guess the rain. We can tell which way the water is going from the floating stuff. LOL Had no idea how much floating stuff we had in our yard.
We will be safe, not to worried about that, just a lot of work coming. Hope water does not get to the cars.
It looks like the hurricane is a few miles further off shore then was expected, that is good. At this point, if I had to do it again, I would stay. A lot of little things you don't think about. We forgot to move the propane tanks, forgot we had a kayak behind one of the out buildings till it floated away. Been wading out in the yard to retrieve a lot of stuff.
And hey, never seen fish in my backyard till now, that will be a funny story in about 12 hours, LOL
Thanks for the good wishes.
I think we, the entire area is getting lucky, because at this point if every thing was normal, the tide were be going out, getting lower. So with the tide going out and the water raising, that is pretty amazing to me.
I have lived here 16 years, and this is about 3 feet higher then I have every seen it.
My house is about 2 feet higher then the water, even though we are a one story, our house is about 3 feet above the ground. The water is still rising, but the rate of rise is slowing. Pinball machines are safe.
Quoted from hardware:Hope all is good. No update in 8 hours.
Thanks for the concern.
Everything is good. We just got power on a few minutes ago, still waiting on water. The water dropped about 2 feet in the 3 hours after my lost post, pretty close to normal now. Winds were much weaker then other storms we have been through here. Really surprised on the water, never seen that before. Just got water into my 3 outbuildings, which is a minor issue. Only got into garage a few inches, then it stopped. Things could have been a lot worse, so I am pretty happy.
