I've been having some trouble the last few days with my HS2 auto plunger. It only makes it around the top loop to the upper flipper 90% of the time. I'm not sure if it's an alignment problem or not. As you can see in the pictures, it looks like the plunger isn't centered on the ball. It needs to be raised up. How should the plunger be aligned? Is it actually correctly set the way I have it? Should I shim it with washers to get it up to the center of the ball?

Thanks!

Facing the front of the game's perspective, I'd raise it a bit and move it to the left a bit. So you hit the ball closer to dead center.

How should I raise it up? Should I just get some washers and put them under the bolts?

Also, I noticed that this coil doesn't have a diode across it. Is this normal?

I just shimmed my HS2's plunger up with washers and centered it a couple of days ago, as mine developed te same problem as yours. Fingers are crossed, so far so good. I figured it couldn't hurt.

You also need to check the wire guide that directs the ball's path after the auto launch. If that is sending the ball to the left or right it will slow down also.

It ended up being a combination of that and the plunger. I ended up shimming the plunger with washers, and adjusting the guide slightly. Now it seems to work correctly.

I just wish that the shimming didn't seem so much like a hack.

Here are some pics of the adjustments...

I'm glad I saw this thread. My HS2 has the same trouble. I'll give these fixes a try.

My Getaway needed this fix. I don't think shimming the plunger helped as much as moving the metal rail that guides the ball onto the playfield. I had to push mine all the way in as far as it would go otherwise the ball would hit the post at the end of the mini loop.

Metal rail? Do you mean the gate at the end of the shooter lane? Surely, you don't mean the right metal wall that lines the right side of the shooter lane?

I only ask because I want to understand what part you moved. Thanks!

The metal ball guide on the right side (top) of the wire gate is adjustable. There is a hole in the plastic above that allows you to place a screwdriver/nut driver in there to loosen the screws, adjust the end of the metal ball guide and tighten it in place. Adjust it until it makes the loop smoothly. Make sure the wire gate is opening very smoothly and not hanging up on the plactics on each side.

I adjusted the metal wall that the ball slides against as it shoots out. The last two pics above show it well. The 2nd to last pic shows the screws that hold the end of the metal wall to the playfield surface by the super jackpot insert. The last pic shows the metal wall that is being adjusted. You can see the smoothed or worn line where balls slide against.

Like in the pic with the screw, I removed the back screw because it does not have any room for adjusting. Maybe someday I will take things apart and drill out the hole so I can put the screw back in. The front screw has plenty of room for sliding in or out. I had to push mine all the way in (to the right if looking at the pic).

The metal gate is what fits over the plunger lane exit. I didn't observe any issues with mine since it opens and closes fine.

Cool. Thanks for your input! My shooter lane plunger is all beat to hell. I am picking one up from PBL's open house on Friday, so until I have the new plunger, I'm holding off on messing with this.
