Picked this up a while back for a low price as my 1st pin. Machine is all in working/good condition now, but the cabinet is an ugly wreck. It was kept in storage for close to 10 years and obviously went through some temperature changes and water exposure, maybe?

The question is, how would you address this cabinet? Full cabinet replacement? Do nothing because I'll never get the money back on this machine?

I'm not super handy with the woodworking, so building one would be out of the question for me.

Thanks in advance.

I'm assuming that means I would need to sand it down, repair and then decal if I could find something like that, right?

Quoted from GListOverflow:

I'd say leave it and get more pins to go on either side

Already done. One coming tonight and another tomorrow.

Quoted from Trekie:

Look for a trashed ST25th with a better cabinet and do a swap. Then sell the other as a project.

That's what I was thinking as well. I don't see them around that often.

I'd just leave it as is.
As long as it's not flaking lead dust bits all over your house, just enjoy it's character .

If you touch it, it flakes paint. Basically, every time it is moved/touched on the sides, you lose more of the paint job. This is one reason it can never be in the house so that my son doesn't digest any of it.

Have you tried Novus?

Wouldn't Novus on top of flaking cabinet = just rub everything off?
