This is likely a dumb question to most of you, but I am working on an older EM machine and want to replace the existing fuses. I have a ton of fuses, some are in bags where the sharpie labeling is wearing off and many are simply loose fuses. I can look at them and read what the amperage is, but not sure how I know if the fuses are fast-blow or slow-blow. What's the trick?

Oh, and another follow-up question. If you don't have the schematic, how do you know what fuse is required? Many times you can tell be the label at the fuse holder, but it and even the schematics don't always say whether to use a fast-blow or slow-blow fuse. Do people have a rule-of-thumb they use, ie some circuits ALWAYS have fast-blow fuses and others slow-blow. Sure it's not quite that simply.
