I have a few titles - Gottlieb's Outer Space & Hot Shot, in particular - where there are some lamp sockets that are affixed to a bracket. Although they seem to be in working order (although in need of some rust removal), I was wondering how to swap them out. The bracket seems to have holes whose diameter is smaller than the gross diameter, so I see no topological way to fit a new one in. I presume that the replacement part (for Gottliebs) is A2913 (http://www.pbresource.com/sockets.html).

Here is an example of what I am talking about:

    Quoted from wayner:

Why do you want to replace the sockets-any rust is easy to remove-just soak in evaporust. Generally the issue is the grounding of the lamp holder to the bracket so I always solder the lamp holder to the bracket and that fixes issue permanently.

Sometimes these lamp sockets get a short that can't get fixed. I have such a short in a Bally Supersonic that has blown out an Alltek lamp driver.

For Outer Space, one of the lamps was rusted shut (i.e., a lamp pushing down could not impinge the plug), but through application of a lot of WD-40 and some fancy pliers work, I was able to get it open.
