    First picture is of a socket (disregard the circle...i just stole a picture off google images...if your socket looks like that, replace it too!). Personally I replace sockets or at least check solder on them if I have a "bad part."

    Second picture is of a random chip being taken off with an ic extractor tool. Would recommend if you have a socketed part. Hope this helps.
