Only needs 3 wires.
Machine A to Machine B
Pin 1 to pin 1 = ground
Pin 2 to pin 3 = tx
pin 3 to pin 2 = rx

Had some spare .100 wired connectors and spliced them together. Easy.

The original called for a TL16C450, but is no longer available, and this chip is a suitable replacement.
