I think this thread needs a full update with links as I see there are 5 complete shakers for LOTR standard that I can find.

Stern (marco) - need to find ROM AND PAL chips. Source from @astill
https://www.marcospecialties.com/pinball-parts/502-5027-00
-Above stern style also available in simpler form (and cheaper) from:
https://www.pinballlife.com/shaker-motor-kit-rev-b-for-most-stern-sam-system-games.html

'Lotr shaker' -includes ROM and PAL chips
https://www.pinballlife.com/lord-of-the-rings-complete-shaker-kit.html

Pinsound shaker- no chips needed PNP. only use if you are running pinsound audio (as of this date) also only shakes via sound triggers.
https://www.pinsound.org/help/motion-control-help/

Pinshakers standard- no chips needed, PNP. But doesn't use cpu prompts. Uses coil, switch, lamp triggers
https://www.pinballlife.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=Pinshakers_STD_Kit

Pinshakers premium - same as standard but more customizable, uses Android app to control.
https://www.pinballlife.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=Pinshakers_Prem_Kit

I am leaning towards the PinPrem. But I also have Pinsound +. Should I do the pinsound Shaker instead? Owner feedback welcome

Thanks for the feedback Northvibe, updated my post. What is the extra harness and loose connector I only see on the Marco one?

Sorry, new guy trying to sort it all out.

northvibe they told me the harness was a "Ground Tap Cable". Anybody use this and understand what it does and why the other kits don't need it?
Here it is sold seperately:

WARNING
I tried to put the Stern Shaker RevB into my cab and realized after it was too late (drilled) that their pattern holes in the instructions are too wide apart for the Shaker holes. So be sure to check the pattern against your Shaker holes and make your own pattern if necessary. Shown is my own pattern sitting on top of the shaker and then their pattern to show the difference.

Ok so I am trying to finish up my Stern shaker install. Wanted some confirmation since this thread has different shakers info in it and figured I would add pics to contribute regarding the Stern item.

Shaker is hooked to small PCB with blue and red wire harness. Also another harness coming off it that is red/white w/connector, and brown/white w/connector.

The small PCB 2wire harness has a red wire with white stripe, that the instructions say to hook to the connector near the coinbox. Neither of the 2 empty connectors near the coin door match up to it. Do I cut that new connector off the small PCB harness red/white and instead link it to the red/white wire that goes to the door interlock as shown in the first op post?

Then there is this harness not shown in first op post. I hook it up in line on the I/O and run the long black/yellow "ground wire" back down to the small PCB at J3, no problems there. Strange that all my wires on that harness have tags on them.....

But where does this brown/white wire 3prong connect to?? The schematic says there should be a loose connector in bottom of cabinet. Not seeing it, am I missing it? Or is that only some themes that have a loose connector available?

20210724_121854 (resized).jpg20210724_121854 (resized).jpg

Is this my only solution - cutting off the connector of the brown/white wire and hooking it to J16 directly?(not pushed in fully yet)

Just seems weird that I have to cutoff connectors but maybe there are too many different models.

Lastly, what the heck is this for? It isn't mentioned in the instructions or the parts list...

Looks like it fits here although one pin is hanging off the edge that is not used anyway... ? What does it do, just introduce a bunch of Capacitors into the mix?

Just an update- decided to risk it and cut the connector off the red/white wire and hooked that to the interlock with a splitter, for power. And then cut the connector off the brown/white and hooked that to J16 for trigger. Also used the little capacitor board. At first I thought it wasn't working, but once I disconnected the Pinsound woofer in the cab then I could feel it. It's amazing how much rumble the pinsound speaker causes that it can hide the effects of a shaker! Shaker working good now

Quoted from djsolzs:

Thanks for posting these pictures and notice I’m about to do mine!

Cool let us know how it goes. One more thing to note, mine came with #6 machine screws instead of wood screws, to mount the PCB. So have to go buy some wood screws to mount that, unless yours came with the right ones.

Fyi I used #6, 1inch long "sheet metal" screws as that is what Stern appears to use for things into wood. Mounted perfect inside to the side of cabinet without going through. I suggest pilot holes.
I tried 3/4inch long but they didn't really have enough bite.

How many times is LED1 flashing during bootup? You didn't mention upgrading to OS8. Should flash 8 times. Not sure if that would affect your issue
