Ok so I am trying to finish up my Stern shaker install. Wanted some confirmation since this thread has different shakers info in it and figured I would add pics to contribute regarding the Stern item.

Shaker is hooked to small PCB with blue and red wire harness. Also another harness coming off it that is red/white w/connector, and brown/white w/connector.
20210724_123356 (resized).jpg20210724_123356 (resized).jpg

The small PCB 2wire harness has a red wire with white stripe, that the instructions say to hook to the connector near the coinbox. Neither of the 2 empty connectors near the coin door match up to it. Do I cut that new connector off the small PCB harness red/white and instead link it to the red/white wire that goes to the door interlock as shown in the first op post?
20210724_092211 (resized).jpg20210724_092211 (resized).jpg

Then there is this harness not shown in first op post. I hook it up in line on the I/O and run the long black/yellow "ground wire" back down to the small PCB at J3, no problems there. Strange that all my wires on that harness have tags on them.....

20210724_120013 (resized).jpg20210724_120013 (resized).jpg

But where does this brown/white wire 3prong connect to?? The schematic says there should be a loose connector in bottom of cabinet. Not seeing it, am I missing it? Or is that only some themes that have a loose connector available?

20210724_121854 (resized).jpg20210724_121854 (resized).jpg

Is this my only solution - cutting off the connector of the brown/white wire and hooking it to J16 directly?(not pushed in fully yet)
20210724_125447 (resized).jpg20210724_125447 (resized).jpg

Just seems weird that I have to cutoff connectors but maybe there are too many different models.

Lastly, what the heck is this for? It isn't mentioned in the instructions or the parts list...
20210724_144725 (resized).jpg20210724_144725 (resized).jpg

Looks like it fits here although one pin is hanging off the edge that is not used anyway... ? What does it do, just introduce a bunch of Capacitors into the mix?

Just an update- decided to risk it and cut the connector off the red/white wire and hooked that to the interlock with a splitter, for power. And then cut the connector off the brown/white and hooked that to J16 for trigger. Also used the little capacitor board. At first I thought it wasn't working, but once I disconnected the Pinsound woofer in the cab then I could feel it. It's amazing how much rumble the pinsound speaker causes that it can hide the effects of a shaker! Shaker working good now

Cool let us know how it goes. One more thing to note, mine came with #6 machine screws instead of wood screws, to mount the PCB. So have to go buy some wood screws to mount that, unless yours came with the right ones.

Fyi I used #6, 1inch long "sheet metal" screws as that is what Stern appears to use for things into wood. Mounted perfect inside to the side of cabinet without going through. I suggest pilot holes.
I tried 3/4inch long but they didn't really have enough bite.

Got a LOTR (2003) with the shaker kit installed. Has the correct LOTR LE chips (ROM, PAL, Display). Noticed the shaker wasn't shaking so inspected and saw that the drive wire(BRN/GRY) was out of the connector on the driver board. All the other wiring is as per the install instructions and secure, nothing loose. The only difference I saw was the shaker board ground wire is soldered directly to the grounding strap instead of being connected to the driverboard. Ground is ground so it shouldn't matter.

Anyway put the BRN/GRY wire back in and I got shake!....... but....

Game reboots about 75% of the time the shaker goes, whether in coil test (#12) or game play. WTH??? I guess now I know why the wire was pulled out...

There is nothing linked to the logic +5V in this setup. Why would the game restart? I'm pretty adept at troubleshooting and pin repair. Before I get too involved and spend a lot of time fixing this I was wondering if anyone else had similar issues.

BTW the RED/WHT wire that should be providing 14.8VAC to the shaker board only reads 8.4 VAC(same with VDC) when measured against GND.

EDIT: Just tested the shaker motor and it's shorted. Guess that's the issue!

Yea, those guys seriously cant run a website. I wouldnt be surprised if they hired web developers for every change.
Here you go: http://pinballbulbs.com/files/biosv8.u8

The checksum of this file is not correct. Do you have the file? Correct is Checksum $8F2E

So I have a friend who bought a SAM shaker kit, upgraded to the LE 10.02 ROM and 10.00 display, upgraded the boot flash, ran the red shaker wire to the top interlock red/white wire and ran the brown wire to pin 5 on J9. Now, when the interlock switch is closed, the shaker runs constantly. Double checked that the game is running on the 10.02 code in the settings. Any ideas?

Q12 transistor?

I have a LOTR that works correctly when the original chips are installed. When I put in the 10.02 CPU, 10.00 display and Gold PAL the game breaks in weird ways -- Only half of the VUKs fire, it can't find the ball and won't play a game correctly. I've tried multiple new chips, re-seated, etc. Restoring the original chips makes everything work again. This is before even trying a shaker.

I've made a video showing what happens:

Any ideas?

How many times is LED1 flashing during bootup? You didn't mention upgrading to OS8. Should flash 8 times. Not sure if that would affect your issue

Following up -- The behavior was similar to a burned out fuse, even though the fuses appeared fine. I replaced all of the fuses and discovered the previous owner had the wrong types (and amp) installed. It still didn't work until I re-started the machine six times, then suddenly everything worked with v10.02. No idea what specifically was going on but seemed related to power use differences between versions paired with incorrect fuses installed.

Why not just buy the Pinsound kit?

It's more expensive.

I found out I blew the transistor the first time. Replaced it just now and it worked fine for a game, turned the game off/on. Transistor appears to be blown again. No shorts that I'm aware of.

Just installed my shaker using chips from Matt’s Basement Arcade. Prior to installation I was getting a random call out errors. When I upgraded to ROM 10.2 and did the OS8 upgrade sound issues went away.

This is my second shaker install. The first machine had a red tremor shaker that was at least twice as powerful as the stern shaker, but I went with stern this time just in case the red tremor caused problems.
