FYI:

If you’re a DP owner/player, you may have noticed on some machines that the exit from the right orbit will send the ball into the left sling, rather than to left flipper, spoiling one of the funnest combo’s in pinball (“Ninjapocalypse!”). There is no way to adjust this out. It’s just a random misalignment that some machines suffer from. If you would like to know my personal fix, involving the fabrication of a “wedge,” read on.

Ballguide Wedge Instructions:

1. Remove two nuts that secure the left ramp's wireform and swing it out of the way. It's not necessary to remove it. It will pivot where it meets the stainless ramp. Next remove the large plastic assembly that includes Dazzler, then remove the rubber ring associated with the drops bank, as well as the upper post it wraps around, and the post that secures the midpoint of the wireform.

2. Cut a piece of plain paper into approximately the shape of the wedge of space that exists between the ballguide's foot and the rigid, black, aluminum rail that runs up the edge of the playfield. Use your fingernails to create an impression of the space in the paper, pushing/poking right up to the edge of the ballguide’s foot on one side and the rail on the other. Be sure to create an “L” lip on one side. Press firmly on the paper directly over the hole for the threaded post, creating an impression. Take the template out and fold in neatly along the crease that was formed when you forced the paper into position against the ballguide. Trim it as necessary to avoid the nearby socket holes.

3. Use your template and a hacksaw to cut an identical piece from 20-gauge stainless sheet. Use a file on the raggedy edges to true them up. Make the crucial “L” bend by inserting one end of the piece in a vice and then, using a mallet and a block of wood, fold the free portion down until you achieve a proper right-angle. Do NOT drill your wedge at this point.

4. Return to your game and apply a piece of masking tape over the post hole in the playfield – this post will anchor your wedge when it’s finished. Mark an “X” in your tape that intersects at that hole and extends 1.5” in at least two directions. Place a similar piece of tape on your wedge in approximately this same spot and lay the wedge in place. Note the two screws that secure the ballguide’s foot. Slightly loosen the upper, remove the lower. You’re going to pivot the ballguide on the upper screw toward the interior of the playfield, so the upper screw must remain in place.

5. Force the wedge into the space. The deeper it goes, the more it will force the ballguide out. Push it in until you gain a few degrees of deflection in that ball guide. Use the sleeved post that sits right at the end of the ballguide as a reference. Hold the wedge in place and mark the tape applied to it to correspond exactly with the reference lines from the tape on the playfield. This is important. If you don’t get this hole in the right spot in the next step, your wedge won’t sit where you need it when installed. Now return to your bench and use a punch to create a pilot mark on your wedge at the intersection of your reference lines. Use a drill press to bore a 3/32” hole.

Sorry about left- or right orbit confusion. To me, the "right orbit" begins at the Domino shot, on the right side of the playfield, and exits on the left side. The left orbit, on the other hand, starts at the Dazzler shot, on the left side of the playfield, and exits at on the right, etc. But, sure, if you want to call the Dazzler shot the "left" orbit, that's fine. Not too many responses, so perhaps I confused everyone. Oops.

6. Now test fit the wedge in your game, crossing your fingers that your hole lines up. If it does not, just enlarge the hole slightly using the next larger drill bit in your set. Once you’re satisfied with the fit, use the threaded post that supports/holds the left ramp at the midpoint to hold your wedge in position, and retighten the upper screw for the ballguide foot. Then return the large plastic assembly that includes Dazzler. In the photo below, the two green lines show the amount of deflection - about 6mm. For a ballguide in this position, that will influence the ball considerably.

After installing this fix, the ball does NOT stray to the sling when exiting that orbit. Instead, it tees up nicely for sweet combos to either Domino or the Katana lock. This repair (not a “mod” in my opinion) took me about half a day to do. Just take your time and you can make one, too. Good luck.

I think you mean left orbit don't you?

Nice fix though...and good detailed thread.
