You don't remove the playfield to straighten the targets.
One tip though, when you lift the playfield, make sure the ball is rolling around the top of the head instead of being near any of the targets. Once you remove a target, it can be a pain trying to put it back in if the ball is in the way.
Regarding the actual removal of the lower playfield... Having an extra person to help is a huge benefit.
