I am going to help a friend move an Eight Ball Deluxe LE and neither one of us have experience with one of these weird cabinets.

I watched a vid that TNT put out but he didn't cover how to lay the head down.

Any help (and pictures) would be much appreciated. Thanks!

You need to disconnect the display molex plug, as well as the connectors to the boards to be safe. It's just the easiest thing to do. Most of the connector wires won't have enough slack to slide the head over.

The base doesn't fold, but you can slide the small rectangle (backlglass part) down and in front of the displays and then plastic wrap or ratchet strap it.

It's not pretty but you can do it (after removing head bolts of course).

Those cabinets are a huge pain to move. It's easier to just move the game with the whole head in place in the upright position. Taking the small upper head off is possible after disconnecting a bunch of cables in a very tight space, but then you still have the lower section attached. Absolutely lousy cabinet design, and the main reason why EBD LE and Centaur II don't sell for nearly as much as the original versions.

Sounds like a good option but we will be in a SUV, so probably wouldn't fit..

Anyone have a pic of one folded down?

Folding the head over ain't THAT hard, and is much easier than moving the game without doing anything.

I'd also suspect those LE games selling "far fewer" than the original designs has more to do with the facts that 1982 was a worse time for pinball, AND that they'd already sold thousands of these games before.

And they managed to sell over 10,000 mr. ms pacs in the same shitty cabinet (and that's a terrible game).

Damn, good point.

I wonder how these games shipped? Would be interesting if anybody remembered how they showed up in the box.

Also you can see I used two straps, to keep the head from sliding forward during the move and pulling on connectors.

Definitely recommend removing the head, or at least the connectors Levi pointed out which allow you to fold it.

Mine was delivered on a flat bed truck with the head on... it’s shockingly heavy and damn near impossible to angle it to go down stairs and fit though a door on a truck with it on. In the end I said fuck it and threw down a ton of blankets and slid it down my steps. Full disclosure: I’m a blockhead. Don’t be like me OK?

I believe the quote was "don't sell for nearly as much as the original versions" - not "far fewer" were sold. However, I do agree with Levi. I believe there actually were far fewer sold of the LE's partly due to the times as mentioned and partly because Bally was using up left over Rapid Fire cabinets which was a huge flop, and there were only so many cabinets in the pipeline to use.

Like every other pin. Body upright, sitting on the back. Only head fully attached.

I don't recall the carton needing to be any bigger than games with detached head.
