I have a re-theme project on a Gottlieb Buck Rogers SS machine where I need to have dimmer GI lights on the playfield.
Probably around 25-50% dimmer, but doesn't need to be variable.
I will just find one light level I like and keep it there.

Is it as simple as putting a resister(s) at the beginning of the GI strings?
    Other ideas?
I've already painted the bulbs red for a dimmer effect but still too bright.

    Thanks.

They would get very hot but yes this is an option. You can use a bridge rectifier to knock drop @ .6 or 1.2 volts depending on how you wire it. You can put 2 or more in line to drop another 1.2 volts for a total of 2.4 volts.

It could be as simple as using 47 bulbs instead of 44s.

Bulb condoms dim them down a good bit if you dont mind colored.

Or other bulb...a #267 bulb is spec’ed to be even dimmer than a #47.

I don't know if they make a GI OCD that is compatible with that particular game, but that might be an option?

Dial it down with a potentiometer.

It is not compatible. The best option, in my opinion is choosing dimmer bulbs as mentioned above. Are we talking incandescent or LED?

You could try simply taking out some bulbs.

I was wondering the same thing. If LED, could be as easy as going from 2 LED bulbs to 1 LED.
