Is there any possibility to determine this without opening the box?

Does the serial number reveal anything?

I think he knows this but he's trying to figure out this without opening the box. Probably have to get a hold of Stern with your serial number and have them tell you. Or get one of these...

The older ones were made from quality metal before the cost cutting. Then the wooden ones came along.

I'm not totally sure, but didn't the old wood MET's only come with standard bulbs. The new metal backbox MET's did have LED's in them and its noted on the stern box. From memory it has "Metallica LED".

The placement of the power switch. On the head it's the new style. Where it's supposed to be older style. Also isn't the speaker panel totally different?

unless you're finding a NIB machine from 2014/2015 (the initial run), it's going to be one with the metal backbox

I purchased mine (NIB) back in april of 2015 and it was one of the last monster premiums to be had in the u.s.
