Thanks for the kind words all!
We should be cutting another playfield soon!
Stream this Saturday about making the ball guides and getting it flipping!

Note on out-lane spinners.
I's pretty much impossible without opening up the outlanes to comfortably fit a regular spinner in there.
We'll have to modify the spinner bracket, rail, and replace the spinner itself for the longer/skinnier apollo 13 spinner.
If it doesn't work, it doesn't work, but we'll give it our best shot!
Quoted from LOTR_breath:Would the Stern opto spinner like in the Beatles work?
Hmmm. I may have to snag one to see.
longest stream ever.. That was great to watch, Ed was really prepared and worked hard getting that flipped.
@deadflip Is this the thread where you will post updates? I'd love to watch your progress on this - looks brilliant!
Ed is a force of nature, isn't he?
I've already begun tweaking shots, but now is where we begin to start editing.
We just needed to get from an idea to a flipping game for the doc.
I ironed out the mini orbits geometry, and added an extra target to shoot at!
For those of you that don't know, we spent VERY little time on designing this layout.
The idea was, that each part of each phase, you can spend as much or little time as you want ala layout, design, code, etc.
We just wanted something to build, and happened upon a fun, quirky shot!
After reviewing the stream when we got flipping I realized we didn’t read or answer a few critical questions about the setup.
The p3-roc is an interface (sorry Gerry I’m simplifying this) board. Not OS dependent, it requires a computer to give it data. The computer also directly displays via the monitor is the display. You can use Linux, windows, or Mac OS X. Most games go Linux when they go into production.
A raspberry pi could be a controller. But it would not have enough power for any complex display. So a NUC or SBC is often used. You can start with a used tower and longer usb cable.
Quoted from Fortytwo:The p3-roc is an interface (sorry Gerry I’m simplifying this) board.
Hah - indeed. The board is much more than an interface board. It handles all of the real-time, low level control of a pinball machine. The PD-16 and SW-16 boards (for driving coils and for reading switches) are more like interface boards, whereas the P3-ROC is the brains of the hardware control. Rounding out the feature boards, the PD-LED board is another intelligent board that controls LEDs, LED strings, servos, and stepper motors. Software running on the computer passes along requests (to drive patterns and such to coils / lights / other features), and the P3-ROC does the low level work.

For sure not everything was answered on stream, but ALL will be covered when we edit the doc together!
I’ve been following this on Facebook. Looks great! I’ve had my own homebrew idea for decades, so I’m hoping to pick up some skills from your journey. Can’t wait to see how this turns out. Your layout is crazy!
DeadFlip Any chance you could post the order of videos here or just the names of the videos so those of us coming in late can start at the start and catch up? I'm looking at your Twitch feed and it's difficult to tell which season/episode to begin at. Maybe add S01E01, S01E02 to your titles? Maybe they are there and I'm just missing them? It's 1AM so please be gentle on me.

Twitch deletes video after a while so not everything is there sadly.
Will you cover some of the details on the transition from the Visual Pinball design over to CAD or a printable copy for the playfield cutting?
I've been thinking of doing this myself for many years, and am just starting to get the ball rolling on some designs myself. Caught your stream with Ed after it was uploaded to YouTube and am definitely stoked to see your tutorial on the whole process. Looks like just the ticket to get my butt in gear and start...
I'm torn on designing anything in Visual Pinball vs starting straight in Fusion360 or similar. I'll have to learn the details of designing in VPX, with then no clear path to transition to something that can be used to cut the playfield. Obviously you get the benefit of virtually flipping before you start building...
I'm also a little frustrated trying to find existing CAD lower 1/3 playfield templates, etc, for a modern WPC or Stern playfield to use as a base, if anyone knows of something I've missed. I can't find much beyond pinballmakers.com...
Just a reminder to everybody that the pindev slack channel is a great resource for people making or thinking about making a custom game (or retheme). Most of the who's-who of custom pinball development hangs out there daily, and most are more than happy to help/advise people through the decisions and tradeoffs that come up during custom game design.
Having Jack publicly document his build is a big help to the community, and he occasionally drops by the slack channel as well.
Feel free to PM me for an invitation to the channel. Everybody is welcome, but slack only lets you join the channel if you're invited.

Bummer.
You are archiving everything right? I guess I will have to wait for the re-release in theatres or home version.

DeadFlip I just wanted to say that I am inspired by you. Not just by this build, but by what you are doing for pinball, and for Twitch. All this while being a Husband and Father. I have a difficult time getting dinner prepared by 6PM for my two kids, yet you make it seem effortless getting everything you do, done. Please know that I appreciate all you do. Please say thank you to your wife for me as well.

Damn. This hit me in the feels a bit. Thank you so much for the kind words.
I'd be a liar if I said I wasn't running around with my head spinning, so if it looks easy, then the illusion is working. Haha
Honestly, thank you.
Quoted from EasternBloc:deadflip, your Dadflip LE edition artwork is remarkably similar to my TPF ensemble. Love the idea and updates; keep it up!
Haha I love seeing parents play with their kids "Attached" to them.
Just curious if this is still happening? I don't know if I missed something or if COVID really just F'd everything up. Definitely following! Would love to make a homebrew one day! Very inspired and love the passion of DeadFlip!
