I bet hoby is the Senior Engineer of the claw itself. Making it the biggest POS on purpose so it can barely grab enough to hang onto a prize as it goes up.

    Quoted from shlockdoc:

It’s so easy to say how you would of, could and should of, but you didn’t.

Would have, could have and should have. I have no idea why people use "of" other than the contraction " 've " perhaps sounds like "of"

Put a pin in wally world??? It would be destroyed rather quickly around here. I personally hate wal-fart.

I don't even go to Walmart to shop, why the hell would I go there to play pinball.

    Quoted from timab2000:

I don't even go to Walmart to shop, why the hell would I go there to play pinball.

It wouldn't be my first choice for placing a game on location.

    #58 6 years ago

A pinball machine in a Walmart? Great idea!

When there are no tables left available at the internal Micky Ds, it will give their customers one more table to eat on.

    #59 6 years ago

I can see bringing out some pins as a popup event on free play to expose / promote pinball to new folks. Like a weekend from 2pm till 6pm.

    Quoted from Gryszzz:

If WWE can't turn a profit in its native environment, why bother?

WWE might be too sophisticated for the Walmart regulars. Now if there was a Kardashians or Jerry Springer pin...

    Quoted from timab2000:

I don't even go to Walmart to shop, why the hell would I go there to play pinball.

I would only go in there to play pinball, my daughters dance academy right around corner. WWE is $6 worth of fun no doubt. Never saw anyone but me play it so it was in pretty good shape.

Okay. You'll forgive me if I don't take your word as law and wait for secondary confirmation on that.

I already want to live in the Netherlands for a year. This statement reinforces that thought.

Love how the kid gets involved. True trash!

    #68 6 years ago

Ugh, wally world is the worst. I wander in about once a year and am always amazed by what I see.

    Quoted from ViolinSteve:

Love how the kid gets involved. True trash!

Yeah it's funny for like 10 seconds until the kid jumps in. Then it's REALLY FUNNY. I kid. I love a good scrap but that shit is heartbreaking. Teach your children well right?? WTF.
Also, don't live in Beech Grove, Indiana.

There is really only one correct way to approach Walmart.

Hey the truth hurts...no need to blow sunshine if there is zero chance of the OP being able to put a machine in WM. Hoby is doing this guy a favor...

How to approach local wal mart? The answer is Don’t.

    #73 6 years ago

    With a capital D.

    Quoted from MinusWorlds:

Yeah because hoby1 took it to the curb!

No sir! To the curd it was.

    #76 6 years ago

    1) No, you can't put a games on location in Walmart because they, like many big businesses, have exclusive contracts with select (major) vending companies to place games.

    2) No, hoby1 does not make a lot of money working for a vending company. Only the owners of vending/amusement companies make a lot of money

    3) Yes, redemption games like claw machines, Cyclone...most of them cheat. They are operator adjustable as to how often they should pay out. Doesn't apply to smaller prize games like candy cranes, Stacker (small prize only), etc. where the cost of the prize can be less than the cost of one play. So while a claw machine does require some "skill" to win it ALSO requires luck that no one else won in the last 30, 50, 100 (operator adjusted) games. Is this misrepresented to the customer? Yes. Should redemption games be required to pay out on skill? No, because then how would the operator make money. Should it be illegal or considered gambling? The laws are always changing and like everything else it comes down to who is lobbying the state politicians with more money.

Disclaimer: I was only a small time business owner so I only made a little lot of money but I know too much.

Was the OP trying to put a pinball machine in ? Or asking if who had equipment at Walmart would do so ?

How I feel when I even see the sign...

-Yawn- if people are still trying to armchair it, hoby1 works for the national entertainment network or NEN. I can confirm that rainbow machines are indeed as dumb as a box of rocks. They are built like a classic jeep, rugged, and only with the features you need. Of course it doesn't require programming to render a claw incapable of picking up prizes. Some more expensive machines let you enter the odds and it will adjust claw power dynamically as prizes are won. This feature has been banned in some states.

To the OPs question, Wal-Mart actually has a program where they work with independent operators, but I've only seen them do it for bulk vending and when whatever installed operator (usually NEN) isn't doing that great of a job.

If you want to fight the good fight and make pinball publicly available again your best odds are with small independent locations. As mentioned above bars and restaurants are probably best. Smart operators try to take a larger cut than legally required in bars. Also be mentally prepared to lose the machine. I've had a few walk away on me... Or get so vandalized that I have to call it a total loss.

    Quoted from InfiniteLives:

speaking of cranes in walmart, i played one saturday morning as I was leaving the store and I won... but the bear got stuck on the claw and wouldnt drop lol. I just left it for the next person to get a free win. I had more quarters but really just wanted to see if i could win.

You should call Hoby1 and tell him you want your F#cking bear or you will sue his insurance company

Good to know hoby1 works for NEN so next time I’m in Walmart I can tell the GM the NEN games are POS and stole a bunch of kids money without working correctly Better get them out to fix em.

Thank you for all of the informative and hilarious replies. I have a much better idea about the topic at hand now. I am not an operator as suggested but simply an enthusiast.

Once again ..... sorry about the harsh initial reply. I hope you can except my apology. I was just kinda taken when I read the statement about possibly removing some of our equipment .

    Quoted from Concretehardt:

Or even better claim personal injury after trying to get the damn bear to fall out of the claws by rocking the machine. "I hurt my neck and my back trying to get the prize I won!". On another note it was previously mentioned that insurance costs are high...a child could be killed. Do you give the child a ratchet set and a sledgehammer to accomplish this?

    #85 6 years ago
    Quoted from DanQverymuch:

Oooh, we're so impressed! Do tell, what would that cost on one pin, in the highly unlikely chance it could prove liable for, what, starting the fires pins are so infamous for starting? If it's so much, how can there be pins on location anywhere?

I looked into liability insurance for Pins (specifically). It’s not exactly easy to find and, unfortunately, it’s not cheap.

Believe it or not, many ops don’t have liability insurance. Just like many run pins as a cash business with money exchanging hands without following tax laws. Some folks do t mind the risk.

Why do you need insurance, that's what go fund me is for these days.

Sarcasm off but I swear it seems more and more that type of site is only their for people that did a piss poor job planning and looking for handouts...

This is getting ridiculous, the guy apologized let’s just move on. No need to mess with someone’s job over a post on Pinside, and to be honest, I’ve seen much worse.

Right on! I was just busting balls and for the record I think Hoby1 is a good guy/Pinsider and maybe was just having a bad day.

    Thank brother,

Just a tough time right now and I got a little jumpy.

    #91 6 years ago

Everyone has hugged it out and we’ve learned nobody got time for Wal-Mart

    #92 6 years ago

Damn... I had the popcorn already to go!

    #93 6 years ago

All I know is that every time I set foot in a Walmart, I can't wait to leave. It's the last place I'd want to play pinball.

Agreed, Hoby1 is a nice guy and always willing to help people out and he's fun to talk pinball with as well.

    #95 6 years ago
    Quoted from hoby1:

You are 100% wrong about this. We make our own cranes and they cannot contol a set payout. Any one that owns a Rainbow crane can attest to this.

.....and the Indian casino gives our parents player's cards to make sure they get their free meal and T-shirt when they have it coming.

    #96 6 years ago

In our small market, the Wal-Marts are actually clean, well stocked and pleasant.

But I've been to some major metro ones in my travels that looked like herds of buffalo had recently stampeded through them. The contrast was actually quite unreal. So I understand from where the aversion stems.

    #97 6 years ago

What is the company he is referring to as the WM gameroom operator supplier. Betson?

    #98 6 years ago
    Quoted from altan:

I guess we can start a whole new thread then.
