Just got a hold of a nice Hyberball, but I am lost on playing it. When you start a game it will start with allowing you to fire and then it says “SPELL-HYPER” or something else. I can usually spell the word pretty quickly, but then it starts flashing “CRITICAL”. Then the turn ends even when I successfully spelled the word. What the heck? Isn’t that the whole point? What am I missing?

It plays like the classic Atari's Missile Command.

Ok, got the hang of it now. Does Hyperball usually have a fan running in it all the time? Also, my music sounds continue long after the last ball.

You have to hit balls in the lit lightning shots marching up the playfield before they get to the top of the playfield and keep the ones on the top from firing lightning bolts down towards the score display area. Sometimes you have to hit the targets for specific letters. If things get too crazy, hit the hyperbomb button on the lockdown bar to wipe out all the lightning bolts on the playfield temporarily.

Got it. How about the sound? Is it supposed to keep going after the game is over?

You get like a wrapup like Waaaaaaaammmhhhh sound (from Defender, I think?) then it should be silent if I remember right. It's been a while. I do remember if you don't have the final rom it won't save scores.

Waaaaaammmhhh is right. But it doesn’t stop.

Video?

I do remember that the giant full-board-edge interconnects were really crappy and unreliable on the one I had. Lots of cleaning and re-pinning to make them reliable. Maybe it's just a bad connection? Have you tried to push/pull them a little to scrape off oxidation that may be causing sound issues?

This is how it's supposed to be at GAME OVER. The sound is very short, then silent:

Adjusting the settings makes the game more fun. See...

Works fine for me. Are you sure your browser isn't hijacked/compromised?

Yes, pinwiki has been having trouble for a long time, it’s not on the client side,

Must be random redirection, then. Works great for me.

What is the domain it redirects you to?
