Just curious what the experience has been for other pinball collectors.
For me, I'd say less than half of the used games I buy include the manual. Many don't have a tilt mechanism or a cash box!
How about you?

Most of the time I have to purchase the manual because they are missing. When I sell the game the manuals go into my library for if I ever purchase the same title again.
I would say somewhere in the 25% to 30% range for us as far as machines coming with manuals. I actually find cash boxes missing almost 100% of the time and tilt assembly is missing about half the machines we buy but 1/3 of the time they are laying in the bottom of the cabinet.
Here is another question - anyone ever keep track of change found in the average machine. I would say my average on that is somewhere between 25 cents and 50 cents. I find money in about 1/2 the machines when we clean cabinets out and normally it is under a quarter of something like 7 quarters. But if I added it all up and divided by number of machines we have owned it is likely to be around 35 cents per machine average.
i voted most of the time because the poll is the opposite of the title, which is what i read . Most of the time the did not come with a manual
The biggest break here is going to be "moderns" vs EMs.
I'd guess Most EM sales have them, most Moderns do not.

Sorry! I have no idea why I did that. If a mod can change the thread title, please do! (I can't figure out how to do that!)
Change from:
How often is the manual missing when you buy used games?
to:
How often is the manual included when you buy used games?
Depends on who you get them from and the era.
EM and SS you're luck to get on %10 of the time.
90's DMD maybe %25 - %40
Chances double if you are buying a project off someone trying to fix it. But then of course you are getting a game where someone didn't know what they were doing, but tried.

Funny I've had the exact opposite finds...of course you have a much larger sample size

I guess it is who you buy them from and where you are. But then I also only get %30 with coin boxes. I think people do it to save a couple of $ and since I buy to play and love I could care less about a couple of $.
I buy because I am hoping to love the game and expecting to own for years. I'm not in it for money or buying a pin would lose the fun effect of a new pin. If you care about the money then every cracked plastic or burnt header goes from an expected repair to a money loss.
I rarely haggle. If you are selling a pin and ask a price I think is good I buy. I think some people figure if they had to send Steve Young $20 for a manual and I did not ask if "it comes with a manual" they keep it and sell for $10 later (yup seen it).
Quoted from wisefwumyogwave:Imagine a world where everyone left the manuals, the coin mechs, and the tilt bobs in the game.
Oh crap. I totally forgot about the @#$% tilt bobs. Great call and I'll put them at 50/50.
Or more accurately 100% for off route games and 50 for home.
I am 0-3 on manuals. I guess maybe 0-4 since I actually bought one for my Police Force and cant find it
To make this a bit more scientific, I did an actual count--and if I remember right, only 4 of the games I've owned actually came with the manual. So that ends up being 10%.
The more they are asking for a game usually insures no manual and a dumbass saying "you can download it off the internet". Yet no one does this and prints it out for the new owner.
