I've primed my Medusa cabinet for painting, but have yet to buy the paint. Don't have a spray gun, so am just going to buy cans but there are so many posts about spray painting cabinets, I'm reading conflicting info.

Question 1: How many cans of spray is needed for the base (brown/red) colour of a cabinet?

Question 2: Do anyone have a recommended brand/colour for a Medusa (who has actually done it themselves)?

As always, any advice is appreciated!

For the backbox and cabinet it takes me 8 cans for a solid basecoat. For the stenciled areas it will take one or two cans per color.

i did just the front and one side of an f14 tomcat and three base coats of black was nearly 3 cans of paint, so i think flipper's dead on with that estimate

    and don't forget the primer!

    Just redid a Earthshaker cabinet..
1 litre of primer and 1 litre of black paint.
Yes I used a brush and roller.

totally depends on the paint brand. 2X rustoleum is usually 6 for dark colors, up to 8 for light colors and yellow. 6 cans of Montana or Molotow will easily get you covered for the base coat. 2 cans on the Gold color to be safe.

For medusa specifically - I would look into the Molotow and Montana spray can lines. The original color was a deep red, definitely not brown. In molotow burgundy #19 turned out really well the last one I did for a customer and I have also done one with Ruby #18. Also find a nice gold flake based paint for the actual stencil. Not too flashy or fake looking but a bronzy gold looked amazing on this title.
