Quoted from Travish:

A REAL helmet. Not a toy piece of shit brain bucket. I went on a ride in West Virginia where 2 people died because of those damn fake helmets.

My 15 yr old son and I just came upon a biker who crashed on a highway within the last hour. His non DOT helmet landed about 20ft from where he came to rest. He sustained a head injury among other things. Lifeflighted to ER. Contributing factor appeared to be too fast in a curve and alcohol. A real helmet would have greatly reduced the severity of injury.

Quoted from Who-Dey:

I don't wear a helmet hardly any at all and I don't want anyone telling me that I should or that I have to either, but on those rare occasions when I do wear one it's a full face helmet instead of a brain bucket that does nothing.
With that being said though, it is a wise choice to wear a helmet,,especially for new unskilled riders. Please though let's not start a helmet debate.

100% agree that this is not the place for debate. We all accept risk when we ride and what protective gear we choose to wear or not wear. But if you choose a helmet due to laws or personal safety, it might as well be a DOT or SNELL approved.

PM me your address and I'll mail you an extra MSF rider handbook I have. It has some good tips and techniques. The MSF Class is really good for riders at any skill level.

Quoted from HEAD_boss_HOG:

Finally got my Moto License about 6 yrs ago. In CALI, It's a near impossible driving test. they make you go through an obstacle course called "the lollipop" because you weave through cones at idle speed, then turn two full circles at the top of the weave pattern, again all at idle speed. You are not allowed to put your foot down or you fail. the pass rate is like 25%. since most people cannot pass the test, especially those who own large cruisers with a long wheel base, CA offers a "safety class" for like $300 which takes an entire day of "training" and then they give you the license.
I failed my first driving test miserably. so, for the next two weeks, i practiced the lollipop course and perfected it. the tester at the DMV almost laughed when he saw me the second time. I passed! saving me $300 and a whole day of my time at the dumb safety course.
I rode enduro for a few years, then sold my DR 650 because of the high risk of riding so frequently (i had two babies). I then bought a street legal Yamaha TW200 to ride trails and put around town. I love to ride. I take the kids to the desert to ride quads. I really hope that my kids keep on with this fun hobby, especially desert trips. There's nothing like riding in the open desert. Such a catharsis, kinda like pinball!!
Cheers!

Hey, I teach that 'dumb' safety course. It's the same course in all 50 States. It's a great and fun part time job and most students enjoy their time in class and pick up some riding and safety tips.

Quoted from HEAD_boss_HOG:

sorry for the comment. I just think the driving test should reflect road driving, not a lollipop. I believe the lollipop test is just a funnel to the "safety course" intentionally. we ought to have a shot at success! anyway, if the class was like 50 bucks, I would take it just for knowledge. I just think 300 is a bit steep for a moto safety course with a bunch of other ppl. I heard you get a t shirt though!

Our class is cheaper but no t shirt. Price is set by the site. Harley Riders Edge is the same class with some additional brand marketing.

Quoted from donjagra:

Spent the summer breathing life back into this 1965 Cushman super silver eagle. My motorcycle problem is about half the size of my pinball problem.

Those were manufactured in my home town. You don't see too many survivors.
