Quoted from woody24:

I need new tires this season. I'm not familiar with motorcycle tires, or pretty much any other tire. I called the local Triumph dealer to get an estimate on tires and install. They gave me a quote of $387 for parts and $203 for labor.
Talked to a local cafe racer inspired shop last year and they suggested a guy that would install them for $20. Now that shop is closed, and I never wrote down the guys name they suggested.
Anyone know the best way to find a good place to get work done without paying dealer fees?

Tires could be anywhere from 200 to 300, depending on what you get. Labor can be 25 to 75 if you bring the wheels in. I haven't paid anyone to change tires in years, though.

Always check the tire dates as well. Once I received and returned a tire that was 3 years old and it looked it.

#663 5 years ago

You need to ride it more.

Quoted from Pinballmike217:

Here's my girl on my Fatboy and yes, that's a T2 plastic riding proud on back. Had to have this bike after seeing Arnold ride one all those years ago in the movie.

That's why I got mine as well, but yours is too new!

They just recently sold Arnolds Fatboy for something like 25K I think.

It is on exhibit at the Harley Museum.

Quoted from Pinballmike217:

Damn, might have been a buyer for that.

It is currently in the H-D museum-

Front brake does more good than back. On sportbikes a skilled rider can raise the rear wheel off the ground while using the front brake. How effective can the rear brake be while the tire is in the air? I have been riding for almost 40 years now, had many close calls, a few crashes and own 4 bikes. On the HD, both brakes are the rule, but a locked rear wheel does nothing for ya. On the FZ1, I never touch the rear brake, unless it is raining or the road conditions warrant it.

That's why I like living in San Diego. Ride all year.

3 of the 4. Rebuilding the engine in the one not shown- a Honda CB1100F.

Quoted from Spyderturbo007:

You indicated in your original post that your tires are new. You have to be extremely careful with new tires because of the mold release compound they use on them when they are manufactured. It makes them crazy slick.
Another thing people do is get a little further in a lean then they are comfortable with and chop the throttle. As soon as you cut the throttle going around a turn, you're done. The bike lifts up, you lose traction and bam, lowside. You actually need to accelerate into a turn. That compresses the suspension, pushing the tire into the pavement and giving you even more traction. Use of a rear brake in a turn can do the same thing.
A good bit of riding a motorcycle is really counter-intuitive.

Wiping down the tread area of new tires with lacquer thinner removes that slick crap and off you go.

Most likely something on the road.

Mhhh .. I am out of the club. Sold my Big Bang Bar Husky last winter ... feel too old for a bike but not too old for that ... my new friend from the USA

Get rid of the yellow splitter guard or get laughed at.

It will damage the splitter. Check it after while. It clearly says to be removed by the dealer, but, hey, it's your car.

Quoted from Blackbeard:

Just got my first bike 2 weeks ago. I researched best first bikes, and read under 400cc is where you wanna be.
‘81 Honda CM400C. So far, so good. Learning to ride has been nerve wracking, but getting easier. Will be taking course.
[quoted image]

Good luck on that style of bike, but I have found standard bikes instead of the high handlebar/low seat style easier to control when I started riding. The school will say use both brakes. I say use the front brake unless on a slippery surface. I have been riding 43 years. Stay away from nearby cars and assume that you are invisible. High beam on the headlight. Ride with protective gear.

Quoted from Blackbeard:

Isn't this style pretty standard? Its def not a chopper type..

It is common on US bikes, but it's not considered a standard style. Standard means flatter handlebars, a flatter seat and a more upright riding posture. Think Suzuki GS500E.

Quoted from Blackbeard:

Gotcha.
This is pretty much the only cycle I’ve ever sat on.
At this point, any speed over 35mph and I feel like I’m gonna die. I’m that green.

If you feel unsafe as speed increase, that is definitely not normal. Try a different motorcycle. Your bike is definitely set up wrong and you should not feel any instability or lack of confidence.

Quoted from freegame450:

I have been riding motorcycles for 40+ years. Owned over 20 bikes during that time, more dirt bikes than street bikes. Purchased my 1st BMW this year. It is a K1600B……finest motorcycle that I have ever owned. 160HP beast rides like a Cadillac and accelerates like a Corvette.
[quoted image]

I was actually thinking of getting one of those. The service is what scares me. I do all my own work on my bikes. I recently rebuilt my 83 CB1100F and am wondering what the service requirements and intervals are on the BMW.

Quoted from robd222:

Here's my new ride, best one I've owned yet. I Traded my dct gold wing for this and so glad I did.
It's a 2021 kawi ninja h2 sx se
It's just an amazing machine. I'm pretty sure this was the bike I was dreaming about when I was a kid and couldn't wait to get a motorcycle. Every single time I hear that supercharger scream I feel like a teenager. Here's a picture from the top of Palomar mountain.
[quoted image][quoted image]

I haven't ridden up there in a while. Are riders obeying the lower speed limits?

Quoted from Multiballmaniac1:

Might buy this today……
[quoted image]

I can't understand why anyone would want that. It seems like it would be unstable and unsafe. Just my take. If you're gonna go three wheels, two in front is much more stable. I understand the Harley part, I own a Fatboy, but I don't get this. I see a lot on the road.
