Quoted from Blackbeard:

Just got my first bike 2 weeks ago. I researched best first bikes, and read under 400cc is where you wanna be.
‘81 Honda CM400C. So far, so good. Learning to ride has been nerve wracking, but getting easier. Will be taking course.
[quoted image]

Good luck on that style of bike, but I have found standard bikes instead of the high handlebar/low seat style easier to control when I started riding. The school will say use both brakes. I say use the front brake unless on a slippery surface. I have been riding 43 years. Stay away from nearby cars and assume that you are invisible. High beam on the headlight. Ride with protective gear.

Quoted from Honch:

I've been riding for a for over 30 years. I started out on a 1971,350 Honda CB. Great bike to learn on. I wish I still had that Honda. It had plenty of power for a small bike and was a blast to ride.
You don't need anything big right away. Just get use to riding before you start getting anything with too much power. There's no shame in getting your feet wet on something easy to handle before you get a rocket or a big twin. And yes, do yourself a favor and take the course.

Agree ... I have no ego to satisfy. Just looking for a good beginner bike
A lot of reviewers are recommending the Yamaha MT-03

Sounds good. Good luck on finding your new ride and stay safe out there. And remember to ALWAYS assume that any vehicle waiting to pull out from a side street, parking lot, etc, will pull out in front of you. Same goes for any on coming traffic waiting to turn left in front of you. Anticipation is your best defense against drivers that don't see you. One other thing. Always leave yourself some room between you and the car in front of you at red lights and keep checking your mirrors while you're stopped. You need to be able to get out of the way if someone isn't paying attention. I've had a few friends get rear ended by idiots that were on their phones and weren't paying attention as they rolled up to the intersection. Luckily they weren't badly injured, but this seems to be happening more and more these days, especially with people on their phones.

Spent the summer breathing life back into this 1965 Cushman super silver eagle. My motorcycle problem is about half the size of my pinball problem.

Isn't this style pretty standard? Its def not a chopper type..

Would've been nice if they had motorcycle training in the 70s. My friends and I learned to ride by getting various body parts smashed. Mine was the left foot.
Amazingly, 45 years later my foot is working fine.
Haven't ridden in 10 years - when I finish building my 1949 Harley WL, I plan on putting a couple hundred miles a year on it at the most! No more cross-country touring for this old body...

That'll be fun. I had an 81 CM200T. Was originally won on The Price Is Right! I traded a friend some off road tires and wheels for it. Had a blast riding it,(I was 19, then). It would barely get to 55 on the freeway after about a mile. Got me too and from work just fine. Ended up getting stolen and recovered and only needed the wiring repaired from the hot wire job.

It is common on US bikes, but it's not considered a standard style. Standard means flatter handlebars, a flatter seat and a more upright riding posture. Think Suzuki GS500E.

Gotcha.

This is pretty much the only cycle I’ve ever sat on.

At this point, any speed over 35mph and I feel like I’m gonna die. I’m that green.

Quoted from Jaeg:

Those were manufactured in my home town. You don't see too many survivors.

I have wanted this scooter for the last 20 years. Two-speed stick shift with a foot clutch, what's not to love? I rebuilt the top end of the motor and had it running and driving, but blew out the back tire on the maiden ride. I don't feel too bad about it because those tires are decades old.

I had given up on finding an eagle because the only ones that come up for sale are fully restored and overpriced. This one is a true survivor with the original patina, exactly what I would want. I'm lucky that I have been able to find parts, but they're expensive. I now understand why the restored examples are so pricy.

That is an amazing bike. I will be disappointed in you if you only put a couple hundred miles a year on it. That bike should be ridden. Now hurry up and get it back together!

If you feel unsafe as speed increase, that is definitely not normal. Try a different motorcycle. Your bike is definitely set up wrong and you should not feel any instability or lack of confidence.

I have been riding motorcycles for 40+ years. Owned over 20 bikes during that time, more dirt bikes than street bikes. Purchased my 1st BMW this year. It is a K1600B……finest motorcycle that I have ever owned. 160HP beast rides like a Cadillac and accelerates like a Corvette.

I was actually thinking of getting one of those. The service is what scares me. I do all my own work on my bikes. I recently rebuilt my 83 CB1100F and am wondering what the service requirements and intervals are on the BMW.

Here's my new ride, best one I've owned yet. I Traded my dct gold wing for this and so glad I did.
It's a 2021 kawi ninja h2 sx se
It's just an amazing machine. I'm pretty sure this was the bike I was dreaming about when I was a kid and couldn't wait to get a motorcycle. Every single time I hear that supercharger scream I feel like a teenager. Here's a picture from the top of Palomar mountain.

I did love my dct and never missed not having a traditional clutch. Eventually I will get another gold wing, but will never get rid of the ninja, it's like having pure joy / adrenaline on tap.
I think I was just a bit early for the wing, although now you do see more guys in their 30's on the new gen ones.
I recently joined an h2 fourm and was surprised to see the ages of the guys on these things. They are more popular overseas, and it does come with a hefty price tag.

I bought my latest superbike, 1098 ducati, from the original owner who was in his 60's.

I let the rego lapse when i was waiting for cataract surgery as i couldn't see to ride it properly.

I didn't renew it for my own safety. The way i ride it's not safe to have 160bhp under my arse on a bike that weighs less than that.

I was a crazy Ducati guy when I was working at a mc shop and the 916 came out,I had 7 or 8 including a Ben bostrum a few monsters,I had black stone cf wheels on a few and loved to mod the hell out of my bikes and the dry clutch’s on them ,I would bling those so much,so much fun.before I bought my 2022 dct wing I went to the Ducati shop and tried to throw a leg over the new v4 street fighter but I came to my senses.

I can't understand why anyone would want that. It seems like it would be unstable and unsafe. Just my take. If you're gonna go three wheels, two in front is much more stable. I understand the Harley part, I own a Fatboy, but I don't get this. I see a lot on the road.

I know, I know, it's really bad but I did 170 mph on it a few weeks ago. With the bags on! Smooth as silk I was surprised how easy she did it.

Well i've had my first bike, a Honda CM400 for a year now.

Next year (the 2024) models, I'm going to buy a new bike.

Kinda liking the Indian Scout line, especially the bobber twenty. Also the Rogue. I like the pricetag, and the HP on them.

Anyone have any scout feedback?

#1045 10 months ago

Sold this one a few years ago, does that still count. (I've owned bikes all my life and took my driver's test on a 1968 Honda before I took the test for car). Harleys, Indians, Hondas, Kawasakis, Triumphs, Suzuki.. I've pretty much owned them all. Currently without bike, damn cell phones and too many close calls on the drum brake, non synchro mesh transmission Indian.. gave it up. But itching again.

Fortunate to find one of these the day 2 arrived at the Dealership. Closest I could find to a new 70's Honda. Super gas mileage and does everything I want.

Quoted from ToucanF16:

I’m having two custom Honda Cubs made in Vietnam.

Sure wish I could find a kickstart assembly, as I understand it the XR150 (in various forms) has been used all over the World for over ten years. Only thing this bike is missing.
Good to be back on the road on two wheels!

I've been testing out new bikes as of late. My current bike is an old 81 Honda CM400.

Test rode the Indian Scout Bobber Twenty and the Rogue. MAN those bikes have some giddyup! Gorgeous bikes and not a bad price.

Leaning towards picking a new one up with the 2024s come out in Nov.
