Quoted from Pinballmike217:

Here's my girl on my Fatboy and yes, that's a T2 plastic riding proud on back. Had to have this bike after seeing Arnold ride one all those years ago in the movie.

That's why I got mine as well, but yours is too new!

They just recently sold Arnolds Fatboy for something like 25K I think.

I have never ridden a Duke 390, but I own a KTM 350XC-W. In general KTM's are known for being light weight and having a higher than average fun factor. I am sure he will be grinning from ear to ear.

You were dead on. When we got back to the house from the dealer he had that ear to ear smile when he took his helmet off.

I finally got around to painting my '74 CB550. I probably put 20+ hours into it, which was mostly sanding. Paint looks good from 5+ feet away but has some flaws. I'm pretty disappointed in myself, but I'm not going to redo it. It's a metallic silver base with an orange candy mid coat, and it's not very forgiving. This was my first time using a HVLP gun.

I now have a ton of respect for people that do this type of work for a living. It's not easy, and there's some skill involved.

The rest of the bike needs to be cleaned and some polish, but I think it looks 100x better with the new paint.

Enjoy that rc51, for all us that can't. It's always been my dream bike.

Survived my 1st crash yesterday. Cruisin along in rush hour traffic on a busy street, gal in front of me gets over to turn right, but in front of her guy was stopped for some fucking reason. Goin about 30mph, hit front brake too hard and my baby went a-rollin, as did I. Arms bloodied up but went pretty well I'd say. 20 people standin around lookin fuckin amazed when I stood up and picked my bike back up. Everybody except the dickpants that was stopped, that pussy took off like a scared child. As pissed as I am about his driving; I have no one to blame but myself. Those morons aren't lookin out for me, I'M lookin out for me. Need to pay closer attention, and I will.
Not even a scratch on my lucky shirt.

Man, I hate hearing stories like this. Last night the local news did a piece about motorcycle crashes. There were six deaths in the area in August alone. Then there was the father of three that was killed about a half mile from my house back in May. Minivan making a left turn pulled out right in front of him.

I sold my bike last summer and miss it every sunny day, but it don't miss playing dodgeball with the distracted drivers.

Glad to hear you're ok @Gryszzz. How's the bike?

Glad you are OK. I just don't ride bikes on the street anymore. You can only be so defensive driving around dickheads these days.I ride in the dirt.

Close call. Glad it didn’t turn out too bad. Hopefully, the incident will increase your perception to this type of douchbaggery.

I put my bike down last Spring due to some gravel on the corner of a country road. Lost some skin on my forearm, similar to you. Now, I’m hyper aware of gravel. I won’t let that happen again.

#725 5 years ago

Gryzzz I would take off if I saw you coming my way too. You look like a pretty bad ass dude. The m afraid if someon made
Me drop my HD I would pull them out of the car or try.

#726 5 years ago

Damn dude. Glad you're ok!

So far I've been lucky. The closest call I've had was doing about 40mph on a 4-lane commercial area. Lady was pulling out of a parking lot turning left, heading my direction. She shot over all three lanes, right into my lane.

Slammed on my brakes, locked up the rear, and slid towards the curb. Luckily, I was able to let go of the brakes just before I hit the curb and keep it on the wheels. After I had full control, I made sure she knew she was #1.

For one, I understand that people just don't look where they're going. But what almost drives me more nuts is that people don't understand the common rules of the road. Under no circumstance should she have shot over to my lane. Rules state that you must take the first open lane, and then merge when safe.

Oh, and speaking of laying it down with gravel, I puckered up a few weeks ago when I was going around a round-a-bout, and I ran over that tar-like patch-job on the asphalt. My tire slid the width of the patch, which was about 6-inches. Was like ice. I thought I was going down for a second.

Glad you are ok Gryszzz, be careful buddy. Motorcycle wrecks usually dont end well, you got lucky!

Thanks for the kind words guys. For as scary as it was, it really couldn't have gone any better. Once again, learnin the hard way. What pissed me off the most was when I got back on my bike all bloody and a little disoriented, this dickheaded soccer dad gets his mini van 6 inches from my tire. I yelled at him and flipped my cigarette at his windshield, but I shoulda got off my bike and stomped his ass. Hopefully I see him again tonight.
My buddy gave me some good advice (I think)....stop holding the front brake. Only use back brake. Gonna work on that.

#730 5 years ago

The bike skidded on the taillight and foot brake for about 20 ft then turned over to the left. I rolled past it. It fired right up. Sounded kinda wonky ar first, which was why when I pulled back out to go home, I was only doing like 30mph. Doesn't matter. You ride a bike's ass, be prepared to have yours handed to ya. I'm gonna find this dickpants, I live in a fairly small town. But Sporty runnin strong still!

Quoted from Gryszzz:

Bad idea. That's not the ticket at all. 80% of braking is physically done with the front brake. Practicing your emergency braking with both brakes is the ticket.

Is that not part of the training and testing in the USA?

(In Canada, it's the most important part of the final testing to get your motorcycle class)

I can elaborate on this if you want. There's a lot about emergency braking on bikes. A lot that goes into it.

Glad you're OK though. Wow.

#732 5 years ago

Thanks for yer input Bendit. Yes they teach you apply both brakes evenly but in a split second, actual emergency, my instinct was front brake-squeeze hard.
Even though I try to give adequate room, this time I was too close, and going too fast. Had I been back further, this wouldn't have happened. I will own that. Will NOT happen again.

#733 5 years ago

Also, it just took me 3 minutes to get outta my chair so tonight's scheduled ass whoopin has been rescheduled until Mon night at 6 pm EST.

#734 5 years ago

Front brake does more good than back. On sportbikes a skilled rider can raise the rear wheel off the ground while using the front brake. How effective can the rear brake be while the tire is in the air? I have been riding for almost 40 years now, had many close calls, a few crashes and own 4 bikes. On the HD, both brakes are the rule, but a locked rear wheel does nothing for ya. On the FZ1, I never touch the rear brake, unless it is raining or the road conditions warrant it.

You guys make some valid points. It would seem that in that situation, going too fast into a stopped car, that hitting EITHER brake too hard and/or individually, the other tire is gonna lose traction and start drifting. I'm really trying to learn from this. So far the biggest lesson is: SLOW DOWN AND BACK THE F OFF. Got it.

[quoted image]

That sucks. I did that on my dirt bike last year.I bought some armour after that. I don't heal as fast as I used to.

#738 5 years ago

I start out with the back and apply the front as needed my bike has anti lock but not integrated brakes. I would worry about fucking up my bike than myself. Mine is one of a thousand and would be hard to replace.

The only time someone purposely fucked with me on the bike I had a ball bearing in my pocket and put it through his windshield. He got off my ass quick.

PM me your address and I'll mail you an extra MSF rider handbook I have. It has some good tips and techniques. The MSF Class is really good for riders at any skill level.

#742 5 years ago

Thanks bud, but I took that class and have that book. All in all, for my 1st emergency situation, I think I got the gold medal bub. Couldve been SO much worse.
Part of my problem us that I no longer take the time to practice becoming a better rider. I just ride. I am 99.9% of the time Grandma Bea on a bike. That .01% is all it takes though.
Lemmy was watchin over me.
Thank you for the offer though.

#749 5 years ago

Thanks Gryszzzz
It's a polarizing look, metallic ruby rims, many like it, many don't. I think it's a cool nod to old school hotrod styles.
It's a stock paintjob, but all the chrome is gone, replaced by custom black spokes and hubs, black mini apes, indicators, black fox shocks etc etc. I don't ride it enough, 4000kms on the clock.....

Summer really flew by, wish I didn’t have to work so much. Hopefully I’ll have more free time to ride next year...
