I sold my V-Rod last week so I only have one bike now. The wife wants me to buy a bagger though with a throne so she can fit her big ass on the back.

Lets Hope she doesn't read any of your posts! lol Go Ultra your really like it!

Sweet SR 500. A friend had one in high school. A buddy of mine recently acquired a 78 TT 500 to bring back from the dead. Can't wait to ride the 'ol Thumper.

Quoted from woody24:

I need new tires this season. I'm not familiar with motorcycle tires, or pretty much any other tire. I called the local Triumph dealer to get an estimate on tires and install. They gave me a quote of $387 for parts and $203 for labor.
Talked to a local cafe racer inspired shop last year and they suggested a guy that would install them for $20. Now that shop is closed, and I never wrote down the guys name they suggested.
Anyone know the best way to find a good place to get work done without paying dealer fees?

Tires could be anywhere from 200 to 300, depending on what you get. Labor can be 25 to 75 if you bring the wheels in. I haven't paid anyone to change tires in years, though.

Same here. I buy my tires online (much cheaper than local!). I then remove my own wheels and perform an inspection at the same time. If you ask me, everybody should learn to remove their wheels, and reinstalling them. I personally do not trust anybody else to do it. It's my ass on 2 wheels.

I bring my wheels in to have the tires mounted and balanced, that's it. I shop around town to see which shop has the best deal for mounting and balancing.

(my last 2 sets of tires came from ebay)

#656 1 year ago

Always check the tire dates as well. Once I received and returned a tire that was 3 years old and it looked it.

Good tip indeed! Especially if you're tubeless. My front Harley wheel has a tube, so I might tolerate an older tire. But might not...

I'm a tech at a honda dealer.
I have an RC51, ruckus, grom, crf50, klx110, cb160, a few ct90s... a few other randoms as well

The reason the guy went out of business is only charging 20.00 to install a tire, that's crazy. Support your local shop!!! Most people who buy tires online do it in correctly. Plus if you like Dunlops they have a special up to 100.00 Visa Rebate for buying and having a shop install them. Also keep in mind that most tire brands will not give you the tire warranty if you buy them online.

Wha? Can you prove this?

Not that I ever had a defective tire.

Different people. The shop that went out of business suggested the guy who only charges $20. The shop didn't do the changes. And I'm not sure who that guy is that they were talking about now.

It was a cool shop though. They were around for about 3-4 years. But they were a niche shop and after they opened I wondered how long they would last. They tailored to the cafe racer types. But they didn't wrench on bikes. Only sold a small selection of clothing, boots, jackets, helmets, and very few accessories.

Here's my other one. You gotta look close...past the pinball machine and under all the junk...can you see my scooter? Any guesses as to what it is?

that's a 2016 or 17 HD softtail slim or slim S

#667 1 year ago

Its the bike Captain America was riding in The First Avenger.

#669 1 year ago

Actually, it's a 1990 Heritage Softail with custom tins. I saved $1,000's from buying the Slim S or Captain America's ride! I made two sets of tins. Meanwhile, I am looking for a project softail to use for the extra set, or a buyer for just the tins.

Just heard some sad news. There are no longer any Triumph dealers in the state of Indiana. There used to be 5 as of last year. Now there are zero.

Came to check out the new inventory, and the dealer said they were gone as of 2 weeks ago. Sounds like Triumph isn't making it easy for dealers, so they're dropping them.

A stroker? Doesn't look like a 74 shovel.

#682 1 year ago

They made 74 and 80 inch flatties.

Mine is bored out a bit. Comes to somewhere around 76".
Got some high lift cams in it too.

It runs pretty good.

Sure wish she was feelin better on her birthday. Choke pulls itself in to a rough idle. Me messing with the idle didn't help. Think it's just clogged pilot jet/dirt in carb AGAIN.
I'll get ol Jolene dialed back in soon.

In the last 10 yrs I cant believe how many carbs I have rebuilt because of methanol, used to be able to leave a motor with gas in it for quite a while before they will gum up.

#687 1 year ago

Got the idle back to semi-normal today. Took er for a ride and now she got a suicide throttle goin. Time to clean the throttle cables and box I reckon. Also...FUCK A CARBURETOR. Lol. At least it's easy to pull off. We just rebuilt it last month!

Can't help but notice that my LOTR LE would fund a nice CBR600RR...but I sold my last motorcycle for a reason...

Use stabil, drain the bowl when you plan on letting it sit.

#690 1 year ago

Thanks for the tip, but I just rode it the day before...no problems. Think I figured it out though...I had it parked in front of garage, like in that pic, and blew out my garage with the blower. Didn't really go near it, but guessing dirt got up in the carb anyway. Dually noted.
How do you drain the bowl?

Well I work on hondas but it should have a flat head on the bowl to drain it. If not shut the petcock off and let it run until it dies...

If you have an air filter blowing dust at it shouldn't be an issue.

THANKS MAN! Valuable info!
I'm more concerned with the sticky throttle than carb now, that shit was kinda scary. Luckily there's 57 YouTube vids showing how to clean throttle box/cables.

I'm in the club. I bought this POS last November - '74 Honda CB550. Didn't run. I spent a lot of time with it in the garage this Spring and have it running beautifully now. It took a significant amount of work. I'm going to repaint it the original color and give it a nice spit shine in the next couple of weeks.

I really love riding it. There's a lot of fun to be had for the amount of money I have in it.

I wouldn't think to, unless your air filter and/or air bowl was completely removed? Usually only 2 ways to get inside a carb, via air intake, or gas intake.

#695 1 year ago

You need to put startron in the gas, one cap for every gallon of gas the tank holds. It prevents the carb issues with the new gas.

My son bought a KTM Duke390 yesterday, what do you guys think of them? He is a new rider and did not what to get something with a ton of power.

#697 1 year ago

I have never ridden a Duke 390, but I own a KTM 350XC-W. In general KTM's are known for being light weight and having a higher than average fun factor. I am sure he will be grinning from ear to ear.
