Seems every time I decide to mod one of machines, I still end up having to screw around w it to get it right ( latest was a set of laser cut TZ hinges missing the " I")........adding extra power, screwing w assemblies, etc.

How about some good stories of mods you installed ( or tried) that either turned out great, or were just a pita, and wish you never did it.

No modder company names, if possible. Not intending this to be a bash thread for them...I appreciate what they bring to the hobby....just some good, old fashioned, " why the f**k did I get into installing this mod" stuff.....

I've had great luck with heavily modding WOZ. There are some great vendors out there.

Agreed, and modding my WOZ was pretty straightforward ( except had to modify the random glowing tree eyes a couple of times) I've done a lot to it...

There are many " beta" mods out there, however ( even from great companies/ people) which can really be a pita....by and large, they all stand behind their products, but there is certainly " tweaking" involved w quite a few....

I installed some pop bumper LED rings on the weekend. Meant to just plug right in, they were not even close. They even came with extended screws and they were still way too short. I just didn't like that I paid for that plug and play ease of install. Ended up screwing around trying to get the old sockets working eventually gave up and bought three new sockets new screws and rewired them completely. Got them to work and they look awesome super happy with the final result.

Just about everything I've seen about mod's is ridiculous and a lot of times not heavily thought out or maybe its the people that buy them and actually install them on there games do a half ass job and it either looks like Hell or is some other pain in the neck. Not mentioning any names here but each time I get a game that has them already on them I wish they didn't have them and it always reminds me why I don't every buy them myself. To each his own I guess......

I think that's the core of it...I love " personalizing" my machines to my liking, but rarely, if ever, is anything " plug and play"...always have to screw around with it....most turn out great, others straight to the trash...

Modding your mods is a bummer, as if someone kicked your puppy.

Not exactly having to mod a mod, but i wanted some pop bumper leds that had a custom up vs down lighting color so i ended up splicing some 555s with Comet pop bumper leds. Also had to cut off the wedge base and wire it to a smaller Matrix connector to get everything to fit properly, which isn't shown in the pic. Ended up looking very nice installed though.

Anything WPC/WPCs/WPC95 etc (So Williams/Bally from 1991-1998) people seem to always find a way of using a pre-existing connector on one of the boards to power their mods (usually J117,J118 or J119).

Only recently have I had a problem with my Stern machine (Whitestar so not sure if this problem is fixed with SAM or SPIKE) where modders all seem to want to use that 1 spare auxiliary connector near the coin door, so I had to buy a power tap as I want to hook up speaker lights, a topper etc and possibly more in the future. No pain and it was very easy to install but first instance I've had to 'mod my mods'.
