Well, look at the owner counts here, on klov, on pinballowners, on IPSND, and a few other pinball forums, and you may start to get a more accurate picture. That of course won't include owners that aren't active in the collector community or games sitting in warehouses somewhere, or collectors who don't make their collections public, but it still might get you in the ballpark.
