as i sit back bathed in the glow of my pins having just finished a game i think,WOW!i own pinball machines. when i was a kid i would play pins with my dad at the corner store, the arcade etc.back then i thought you would have to be a gazillionaire to own a pin. now i own 2 and plan to buy more soon. how lucky we truly are.

    #2 12 years ago

Amen brutha! I had zero in january, now i have 7. I love love love them and feel just as lucky!

Just think, there are children in this world going to bed without a pinball machine. For just 50 cents a day, the cost of a cup of coffee (not Starbucks), you can make this dream a reality. So please, pick up your credit card and phone and dial 1-800-KING-PIN to make your donation today.

    hahaha

    tru dat

Nothing else does it for me. I waited so long to get into something like this. It's amazing that it is a form of entertainment that you can literally have your cake and eat it too, as the machines will at least keep their value, and can increase.

A lot of my friends/family are appalled by the money I have into my collection – “just for pinball”. I justify it by stating the return I could get right now if I was to sell, compared to the return on their respective wasteful lost entertainment costs (golf, new cars, console gaming).

I feel lucky every time I walk down stairs to see my own Arcade lol

I was pissed off the other week when one of my machines wasn't working. Then, I realized that I was pissed off b/c I had a pinball machine problem. It then dawned on me that I'm fortunate enough that my biggest problem of the day was a pinball problem!

LOL, I've had that day myself. SEVERAL times

So far, I only have an STTNG, but damn I know I am very fortunate to have this in my home. First world problems are AWESOME!

    Well said MrGone...well said.

    #14 12 years ago

    No luck about it though.
Everyone that owns pinball machines have worked hundreds
of hours to earn money to buy machines in their collection.
Also we have all sent dozens of hours hunting for machines that we desire.
We earned our machines and are fortunate that we're not alone in this hobby.

    #15 12 years ago

Extremely well said Highprotein! Couldn't agree more. It took us a little bit to save up for our first pin but it was so worth it! Now we are working on a second. And this site is awesome for the help and support everyone gives not to mention funnies you get in between!

    #16 12 years ago

I whole heartily agree with high protein.

    #17 12 years ago

I agree with highprotein as well. But, guess I'm looking at it as we are fortunate to be in the positions we are to have this hobby. Yes, we work our asses off for it, but it's still a very cool thing to have an actual, full blooded pinball machine in our homes.

I 100% agree! You earned them!

    #19 12 years ago

I too have earned my pins and everything i have. i work 50-60 hours a week and raising a family.
im sure everyone here has earned their pins. I was speaking more of the good fortune of being prosperous. of being able to fulfill a childhood dream and sitting back and thinking to myself, yes! i did it.

    We earned our machines

    Damn right!

    'Effing Ricky Stratton!!!

    images-1.jpegimages-1.jpeg

    #21 12 years ago

I thought that was Ricky shroader?

    #22 12 years ago

I was thinking the same thing a couple of nights ago. Almost exactly 20 years ago, I was a bass player in a local metal band living on Ramen in the rehearsal pad. Now I can afford a pinball of my own! Amazing!

The part where I get to fix problems is a bonus, as I am learning a new skill set for my hobby.

I think Stratton was the name of the character he played.

I typed in the number for KINGPIN. Porn site. Should have known. lol Guess I should change it so there are no backlinks to this site when people do a porn search.

    #24 12 years ago

wasnt it Ricky Shroughter or schroter - something like that.

    Shame Shame

I do find it nice to own (and have owned) pinball machines. I hope to see the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry someday do a arcade/pinball/game exhibit and see that old one I donated on display.

I really miss my TZ now that I sold it. It's the first one I really regret. Hopefully WOZ will fill that void.

    Quoted from Brokedad:

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I have a feeling it won't fill the void. Here's why

While WOZ will be brand new to you, and filled with all kinds of super-goodness for you, it won't
    be TZ.

My prediction is that after you get WOZ in your house the next pin on the shopping list will
be TZ. Why do I say this?

Because you're missing TZ, you're regretting it, and to get over that regret the only way you're
going to do that is by getting another TZ, shopping it out, modding it out, and getting it back to
the condition your former TZ was.

OK, that'll be $3000 dollars, I am your pinball therapist. Pay me!

    #27 12 years ago

When I was a little kid I used to think to buy a pinball machine, I would have to open a business and have TONS of cash, otherwise you're not allowed to. But now that I'm older and I know I can just go out and buy one, I feel really lucky knowing I'm on the hunt for my first pin. Something I never thought would happen.

You might be right .. the thing had almost every mod on it you can add. He's still pushing for my CV but I'm not budging on saying NOT FOR SALE !

Stick to your guns! Guess one of these days he'll take the hint when you keep pushing back with "NOT FOR SALE".

I could see you letting it go if it no longer held the same sentiments it does now, or if you were going to use the funds to leap onto something that you want really bad, like the BR method of flipping pins. But even BR has his two keepers, TZ and BSD that he's not letting go.

I think in the end with collections it's what's keeping you interested, satisfied and happy.

Everything has a price. Tell him $10K and it's his. That should get him to leave you alone. If not, then you can go out and buy a TZ and another CV with all that money.

Well, I got lucky. I got my first 3 pins because a wife told her husband either they go or I go and, and I saved their marriage.
He was doing some work on my house and I over heard him say something to that effect. I know, I couldn't help myself.
He took $350 a piece for them. It was a mint Evil Knievel, Harlem Globe Trotters and a Charlie's Angels.
From that I either traded or traded with cash. I never put any of my machines on credit.
Yes, I feel lucky and fortunate.

word. nobody "gave" me a machine. although, I wouldn't mind it

    In the same spirit.

Lucky enough to live in a country that affords me the opportunity to work hard and enjoy the fruits of my labor.

BTW, like to say thanks to all servicemen/women who make sacrifices so I can enjoy those opportunities.

Kept reminding myself how lucky I am as I was taking off half the playfield to reattach a part that the previous owner had been just storing in the coin box.

Ha, that's what my wife says about any food I leave on the table. I told her to put it in a box and send it to 'em. Seriously, I get your point.
