I was wondering; how long guys with a 20-30 games collection can keep their lineup 100% working with no credit dots(Mostly DMDs)

I deal easily with dots from switches not triggered but everytime I host a party, some of my games need repairs. The lineup is never 100% functional!!!

is this hobby a never ending repair challenge?

    Yes.

Does not matter if you played them a lot or let them set for weeks/months turned off. Something always happens.

Yea pretty much.I worked on a operator's route back in the 90's and we ran at least 30 pins on location at any given time.Lots of service calls. And if we got a service call for a jukebox or pool table I would have to check out the pinball to make sure it was up and doing its job.I really don't miss that crap at all.I now tinker with my one and only pin game for fun.

I think every collectors with lots of games have to deal with the love/hate relationship.

Just like having 30 victoria's secret models in my life but every fu*^# ones are complaining

All working 100% all the time. Except during shopping out.

If you are talking about DMDs they are all now 100% gone.

Yeah, thinking that nothing ever happens even if you hardly play them is a dream. Electronics can just age or fail with time, and most of these things are over 20 years old, and most of the time you don't know what happened with them before you got them.

Literally every machine I have, or the ones I regularly maintain have something gone suddenly wrong. Drives me nuts on one side, but is part of the hobby on the other side.

Lots of friend tell me " DMDs are only the first stage of addiction. You'll end with EMs at the end. They are the only true skill games"

I still enjoy A LOT my lineup (i'm super lucky) but working on it 90% of the time for a 10% playing/enjoying...
I could let someone work on them but I can't. I love to learn and solve problems.

I really love my joker poker these Times...

I feel your pain.I worked on those damn pins for 11 years and only played them for fun after shopping them out and preparing them for the next stop on the tour.I played the hell out of them though and got pretty good at it.After that gig ended I didn't even look at a pin for years. But I finally got one for home.

Could be. I like my punishment short and sweet. Although I started out playing EMs, it was mostly DMDs I was after when I started buying. Until I was exposed to some of the EMs I had never heard of. Still keep a few solid states around though, but the DMDs have lost their luster for sure.

2 years ago I was reading pinside and getting the collector Fever..."I want them all!! I'll build a shed or a building to Play, collectors and enjoy them (now the pin church I own).

Some guys were writting " I had them all. 20-30 even 50 games! It was fun. Now I only keep 4-5..So great!!"

It didnt compute in my head. Why 5 when you can try to get them all??

In french we say " un passage obligé". It means you have to walk the walk to understand...

I'm not complaining about what I have. I just understand old timers now

It depends on the condition of your games. My pins were all purchased fully restored so they cost more, but as a result they have been all running with no issues for many months now. If you buy players condition type games I imagine issues will crop up regularly. The only issues I've had is with two arcade machines that I bought unrestored, both of their monitors died. But all my other arcade machines were bought fully restored and those have been running perfect for ages now. So it's all about condition really.

Reality you live a good life
My games are collectors but it still happens.

It takes a while to get them dialed in. But I'm pretty much on top of everything and fix every little thing that comes up. I had a two day party in April and had just a few minor issues that were taken care of quickly.

It's a grand day when all of my pins are working 100%. It might be easier in a small collection but when you start getting over 20, there's always something not working correctly.

Yes. You need to enjoy repair work if you're going to have a decent sized collection and want them to all work as close to 100% as possible. Particularly if you're going to host decent sized gatherings where they'll see lots of play.

Once I had all my games 100% for almost half an hour!

Uh oh, just noticed a light bulb out. Time to go change it!
