The usual response after someone posts about their first pin is almost always advice related to how they tend to multiply and increase in numbers and to be prepared, have more room, how lonely it looks, etc. A pretty good one radium just posted in the What machine did you bring home today thread was "Remember the golden rule, every pin you own should be touching two others." (https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/what-machine-did-you-bring-home-today-post-your-pictures/page/338#post-5755482)

This got me thinking about how long after my first pin before I got my second, and I was shocked when I went back and looked and it was only five days! I bought two non-working projects that were only two hours away - Also my first double pin purchase (I have had two others since then).

How long after you got your first pin did you get your second? and how many times have you done a double (or more) (for us mere mortals, not Colsond3 or the96stang!)

    #2 2 years ago

    A couple months.

    Also my first eBay buy.

    Lots of lessons were learned.

    #3 2 years ago

I don't see any 'zero seconds' option in your poll..

I bought my first two simultaneously from the96stang

    #4 2 years ago

I bought my first two at the same time.

You have to wait 30 minutes, otherwise you will cramp up.

    #7 2 years ago

I bought my second two years after the first. I've bought five more in the last ten months.

    #8 2 years ago

    About 3 months

    #9 2 years ago

I've bought, fixed up, sold and traded 40 in the last 15 years.
So averaging 2.6 machines a year.

    #10 2 years ago

Added a category to the poll for those who started right off the bat with two or more for the overachievers

    #11 2 years ago

I bought my second pin about 3 years after my first one. I still didn't know it was "normal" to have pins at home at that point or where to buy them. I started doing some research, found Pinside, and then the race was on.

I bought a $1,000 Firepower II for my first pin and one month later a NIB TWD Pro. A year in and I have four pins and counting

    #13 2 years ago

I am averaging 1 NIB a year or so but it could be 2 this year if GNR ever gets released

    #14 2 years ago

I bought T2, and then 7 months later, bought MET Pre. T2 is gone (only pin I've sold), MET is still there, along with three others that have been added in the past couple of years...

    #15 2 years ago

I voted between 1 and 3 years which is probably the most accurate.

Game 3 probably less than 1 year. Then things got out of hand.

THEN I had to sell all but 1 because I was moving. Now things have gotten out of hand worse than before.

    #16 2 years ago

I've got 4 now, have owned a total of 19 (I rotate frequently), and got my first game, WCS94... in August 2018. If you can sell them for what you paid for them, why not?

    #17 2 years ago

Won Alien Poker in a raffle a couple weeks after my NIB TH was delivered (about 16 months later if you count from the time I pre-ordered Hobbit.) I average about one machine a year.

    #18 2 years ago

I'm at on pace for 2 every month, 70 in the last 3 years.

5 in one shot last month

I need to slow down but I am having fun.

    10 years. Anyone beat that?

Easily. 39 years. First game in 1971. Second one in 2010.

I smell another purchase coming up in the next week or two, lots of irons in the fire.

    #23 2 years ago

May have been less than an hour . Got my first (BSD) at TPF (FUN auction)...then unexpectedly grabbed a Freddy off the floor soon after.

    #24 2 years ago

Took me about 2.5 years to get my second pin after suffering a broken bone injury and trying to get back to work full time. Now I'm ready for my 3rd pin.

    #25 2 years ago

    36 years

    #26 2 years ago
    Quoted from EMsInKC:

From your collections, looks like you both are making up for lost time

I showed my wife this post and told her I exercised incredible restraint waiting five days before my second (and third) pin(s)

1 month, then my girlfriend bought the second.

    #30 2 years ago

For those of us who have their first pin and intend, but don't know when, to get a second, we might need another option besides "One pin is all I need."

I'm more along the lines of "desperately want a second pin, but certain others here are convinced there's no room in the house, and need to be convinced otherwise."

    #31 2 years ago

I just showed up with both..It’s the only way to do it fight it out after Lmao ..

    #32 2 years ago

My wife wanted one so I bought her 2!

    #33 2 years ago

    About 2-3 months.

Now they are breeding at a rate of about 2 new pinbabies per year.

    #34 2 years ago

My wife did not like waiting for her turn to play and thought a second pin would be nice . She took truck to a ops warehouse and brought 4 more home . No adult supervision in my home !!!

Less than 2 months for me.

Can't seem to edit the poll anymore, but certainly missed this category. I will just have to assume "one pin is all I need" also means "one pin is all I need right now"

Unicorns do exist! Never let her leave!

Follow-up question... Does a virtual pin count, or only physical?

    Of course it counts!

Started with a NIB GB pro as Christmas present for my wife in 2018.
For me, the 2nd (Roller Coaster Tycoon) took ~5 months. That's when I discovered the joy of the 2nd hand pin market, and the flood gates opened. The 3rd (Aerosmith) was picked up about 3hrs after the 2nd.

Isn't within 6 months and within a year the same thing for some people? That said, mine was 10 months between first and second. Over 2.5 years between second and third.

I do not have that kind of impulse control.

hah! well between the pinballs I bought a Golden Tee Golf 2015 and Mrs. Pac man / Galaga 1981 anniversary edition machine. So I've been busy

    #49 1 year ago

I bought my first (LAH) in May 2000. In 2012 I discovered tournament pinball and Cactus Jacks (the arcade not the pin) in Oklahoma City and really ignited my pinball passion. I bought my second (R&B) in Dec 2012 so a little over 12 years after the first. Since then I've added about 20 pins, but I really need to thin it down to 10 or 11.

Yes. Of course. "For the wife."

It's the best way to keep adding games to the collection.
