Quoted from ddebuss:Gary said at Free Play Florida last year that VE's will come out with the original game boards. So a Whitestar VE will have a Whitestar board in it.
SAM: Been done and surely will be done again. World Poker Tour™ to The Walking Dead
Whitestar: Very likely... Apollo 13 to Nascar®
DataEast/Sega Version 3(b): Maybe... Back to the Future to Batman Forever. There may be enough games that would get enough demand to give it a shot on one or two of them.
Based on the title list I have a hard time believing they will go back farther than this.
Unless Stern is sitting on a pile of old boards somewhere (doubtful), it becomes impractical to go further and further back to produce titles without more and more reengineering work, mainly because of parts availability. For example, BSMT2000 is NLA and the only way to do sound for the DE machines would be to use something like Pinsound. Also, why keep the crappy L/R relay for solenoids and flashers in the DE platform? At some point with the amount of work necessary to bring a title back to market it no longer is a vault edition but becomes more like MMr - "reimagined" or some such.
