These post are always ageless! I'm rebuilding some flippers today. The coils are aftermarket and the game is from 1989 so I figure they can't be "that old" but the sleeve (in the first one) is stuck. I've never ran into a jammed sleeve before. I was just going to order new coils but after reading this awesome thread I'll try some of the tricks have a look inside the coil ohm them out and hopefully rebuild them and be playing the game tonight!

So let me ask you guys this. What way does the sleeve go into the coil? I actually ran the sleeve in with the flange toward the flipper and the other coil when I did that the bolt holes for the back plate would not line up. So I ran the flange towards the back and it seems like both flippers work as they should. Thought it was strange and I've ran into several flippers where they ran the flange towards the back. Nothing like replacing everything with new that's for sure!

Quoted from DefaultGen:

Your coils are on backwards. You want the tabs away from the coil stop (the sleeve will only go in one way when you orient the coil correctly). More vibration at the coil stop = bigger chance of a wire breaking off if you have the tabs on that end.

Interesting! I never knew that! That goes for all flippers? I just replaced them the way I found them and the coils that were on there before were cheap replacements. I even checked the manual and the manual shows them the other way. I guess apart they come again!
