I love my Fastbreak and was wondering if anybody had or played both? It might be cool to get one and put em next to each other.....

Has anybody ever had two Fastbreaks to play against each other?

#2 7 years ago

Interesting questions. I've been thinking about this very thing lately.... as there are two NBA Fastbreaks being sold here (from two different sellers). I'm also curious about how much they usually cost in the 'real world'.

#3 7 years ago

What are they asking for them?

NBA Fastbreak is an undervalued game, IMO. Fun game, but not deep. Two games linked is tons of fun.

Stern NBA uses the Space Jam layout but is slightly updated. Also a fun game with some cool shots, but you get less bang for your buck considering this game goes for $3k-$4k, compared to $2k or less for NBAFB.

$1700 for this one...

The other one... I don't know. I could ask, but I expect it to be similar or the same.
It belongs to a local Pinsider I know.

Nba is not a very fun game. Nba fastbreak is a lot more fun.

I'm partial to the nba Fastbreak, the fact that you can link them, the unique scoring, collecting the rings, has better dmd animations and audio as well.

My buddy here in nj has them linked 2 NBAFB and its fantastic.

I played nba a lot at pinburgh and I like some of the features and the game is ridiculously deep.

If space isn't as issue and you have people come over regularly, I'd get the 2 nbafbs and link them..

That sounds like a blast! Might have to do that since I'm turning the garage into a gameroom too.....

Can't really tell from that picture but it looks like its in decent shape and $1700 to me is a pretty good deal as I'd say an average condition sells around 1800-2200....I paid 2700 for mine but it was out of the box clean....

you can change the length of time the quarters are and when you hit a shot it lights up for both machines...and you can battle for rings...we set it to the longest time and my buddy earned 2 rings

it's like you are trying to beat the game together while playing against each other...by far one of the most unique pinball playing experiences...and the game is great on its own...

They're totally different, so since you're a B-Ball fan, I think it could be cool to have both. I don't even like basketball but I actually like both of these games. Stern NBA doesn't have the robust "out of the boxness" that Fastbreak has, but it's got some really cool stuff. The magnet basket tricks on NBA are really entertaining. There's a freethrow from a saucer that kicks the ball thru the air diagonally toward the net- the magnet catches the ball and drops it into the net. There's a ramp flap that allows the ball to fly up toward the net from the ramp shot. It's a neat and rare game - grab one if there's one nearby!

I have played both and really love Fastbreak and can't wait to play a linked set. NBA was fun but not quite the game Fastbreak is.

That is just very cool! And you are right, its great on its own too.....and the price is right!

Gotta do it myself, I'll shoot pics when its done, thanks for the info!

The problem is finding the Stern NBA so that may take a while, gotta go play that one in Austin at Pinballz....

Nba fastbreak is only great when you have 2 linked together 1 on its own is fairly decent

#19 7 years ago

Both are better than watching boring basketball on TV. I would rather play the pins and outside game than support the real game that's for sure.

i love my NBA !
and i'm not a basketball fan...

Yeah, I always figured I'd give it a shot if I found one cheap (since no one seems to care about it) ...but at this point, I think if one pops up and you want it - grab it. The only time I played it was a floor model at a local (now defunct) distributor's showroom. I went there to play 24, actually...NBA was next to it. 24 I was like "BLEH" after a few games, played NBA just for the hell of it and was like "whoah" ...and kept hitting Start over and over again. Sometimes a simple but cool playfield trick is enough to entertain me....the freethrow shot was really that fun to me lol.

#22 7 years ago

I have never played Fastbreak but can play the Stern version any day of the week (given it's in my basement). The basket is fun and I also like the spinning magnetic basekeball (plate) in the middle of the playfield that catches the ball and sends it in unexpected directions. Can't count the number of times I've been "deeked".

I wasn't sure I was crazy about this game at first but have grown to really enjoy it.

#23 7 years ago

yep, thats the story with NBA...

first impression is it seems a poor & empty game
if you only play few games, the feeling stay the same

BUT

when you know it, the rules, the "how to play" it, its another story
and than, the more you play, the more you like it

I am with Jeff on this one. I only really like Fastbreak the other one never did anything for me. I played fastbreak first and think it is the better of the two.

Agreed, I would go for the Fastbreak

I like both games. NBA is like an improved version of Space Jam with a basic, good variety of shots and a few cool toys (diverters, magnetic basket). It does have that 'cheap' lightweight Stern feel to it, reminding me a bit of IJ4.

FB is a fun game--seems shallow at first with the basketball scoring, but there are lots of cool modes and goals to achieve and increase scoring.

Love Fastbreak, and someday will have it in our home again I am sure (especially if my kids get their way). I'd like to play the other NBA tables, but not as a basketball fan. I don't know anyone who did not enjoy playing fastbreak at our house and it was easily considered the gateway pin for our friends and neighbors who came over. What other differences are there, I'm interested !

I had two linked, didn't like it. Timed game, and useless unless you have someone to play against. Love it as a stand alone game. Not deep but hard to collect rings. To each their own. Played Stern NBA (Space Jam reincarnated), fell asleep on the 2nd ball... zzzzzzzzzzz
