    Well, honestly there should not be many instances where you cant just strip wire back to bend and hold it in place BEFORE you solder. The only time is when you may have a short wire to work with and it doesn't allow you enough length to "bend" it to hold on what you are trying to solder. When this happens, I add some length of wire and use heat shrink tubing. Heat shrink tubing is a must in anyone's pin repair box.

    Very well said. I have had the 40 hour aerospace soldering class that Lockheed Martin used to to give. They examined the solder joint you did on the exams using a microscope. One basic rules that that you never ever solder anything that is not mechanically attached prior to the solder. Solder in one hand and iron in the other. What you are soldering should always be held on its own. In a pinch the helping hands are ok.

    Usually I use the solder sucker on switches or coils before hand to open up the hole in the lug to max size. You can get a lot of wire and/or diodes through the hole and wrap it around once the hole is opened up.
