What techniques or strategies help you play your best in a tournament?
Keep in mind that you're just doing a fun activity and the results really don't matter that much. It will lessen the pressure and you'll have a better time regardless of the outcome.
Two drinks. One shot at a time. Try to tune out the Bon Jovi blaring in the background.
I learned breathing techniques when I took pinball lessons from this guy Carl. It really helped me stay calm under pressure and it all around, upped my game. Well worth the $50/hr
It gets easier with time. As others said, the outcome of a pinball game really doesn't matter in the grand scheme of life.
Pinball is like bowling. The perfect amount of booze to loosen you up, make you maybe a bit cocky, but not too much you get sloppy.
close eyes and just FEEL.
thatd be sweet but just FOCUS like crazy
try to block outside stuff out and really pay attention what you are trying to accomplish

Try to make the first four shots, once that step is completed you can start to dial in and focus on where the big points are.
I really hate to admit or even recommend it, but I'm going with booze as well. For me, at least, one carbomb, maybe two is the perfect amount. : P
From an observer's perspective, a little bit of alcohol and a pair of headphones with some music in your ears seems to help a lot.
Yeah, I tried the headphones seriously for the first time yesterday..
Ball 1, no headphones - 1.5 million
Ball 2, no headphones - 1.5 million
Ball 3, with headphones, and a 20+ million point deficit against every other player in a four player game, during a single elimination round - THIRTY FIVE MILLION.
I get the headphones for the in the zone part, but I hate not hearing the machine's feedback. Audio is part of my cues for knowing what's going on.
