Thought I would do a poll of these 5 pins

#2 8 years ago

IJ Williams is in a different class compared to other titles mentioned.

IJ Williams 1st

BF Last
Everything is interchangeable between.

I played plenty of IJ Williams and didn't get the love for them at first... The machine has to be playing correctly to not be frustrating but if you get a good one, there are some really challenging and gratifying shots and modes to run through. Once it hit me / once I found a good one, I couldn't bring my wallet out fast enough. "Sir, how many quarters will it take to buy this machine?"

A good friend as a BF, I really have no love for Sega games. They feel cheaper and aren't at the same depth as a good Williams game.

Ok screwed up only four in poll.

Are you saying IJ different class?
Depth of game?

#7 8 years ago

BF is pretty deep, and challenging. Most Williams pins are not very deep.
I shouldn't have sold my IJ.

WIJ is one of the best games ever made. Some of the others are great players, but (IMHO) none of them match the depth, theme integration, shot selection, variety of gameplay, callouts, or music of a good playing WIJ. Not even a little bit. That's just my opinion though, and I'm sure there are many TSPP lovers out there that will feel as though I'm being too partisan.

Williams has an aura around it by many who shun anything else.

That being said Simpsons is the deepest and has excellent rules integration.
Then IJ although the mode start whole is a travesty.
Fish Tales and BF is tough. Batman has great flow, some great dots, the wireforms are lovely. It suffers from imbalanced scoring due to the 20x bonus (have had 4.5 Billion without doing anything in modes or multiball). The video mode is also garbage. On the other hand fish tales also has great flow, but the theme puts of many. Video mode is excellent, but all in all it doesn't feel as deep as BF.
Taxi is a classic, but it is dead simple and not fair to compare.

Interesting no love for the Batman.
Voting shows strong support for WIJ, which I have just truly discovered.
Have had an IJ for years, wife's game never got into it, then one day started playing it, fixed a few things dialed it in a little better and wow it's fun.

Why no love for Batman?

What are the things you need to dial in on an Indy? I know about the POA, what else? Assuming there is no way to improve mode start shot

Start mode is key to enjoying the game.
Being able back hand the saucer, and making sure the ball doesn't bounce out.
Should be able to hit wire ramps with out thinking about it

TSPP, FT, IJ, Taxi, BF

Sorry but IJ never spoke to me, despite trying to love it for many years. TSPP is software genius. FT is just plain fun. Taxi fun, but a simpler age. BF, meh.

IJ - keeper, the rest - not at all in my opinion

#19 8 years ago

TSPP probably one of the best games ever made...definitely the deepest, and has a nice varied layout (not your typical fan layout redone ad nausea). Great theme integration, and some real innovations with the reverse flipper mode and AI multiball. I miss mine.

After TSPP, then IJ, BF, Taxi and FT....I have a sincere hate for FT and I love to fish

#20 8 years ago

I am not seeing the love for Taxi that should be there. Yes, IJ is an all-time great. Yes, TSPP is also an excellent well thought-out game. But Taxi is just a blast. How often do you see them come up for sale? Pinheads love it. While the experts may find it simple, it is a great game for a collection and shouldn't be dismissed so easily.

#21 8 years ago

I couldn't get into Taxi, even playing really nice ones. It's not a bad layout, and actually you see bits of later games designs in there, but I just can't enjoy that game (at least haven't yet). I liked Diner better than Taxi but not enough to keep. FT I couldn't get into, just felt about as closed as Bride of Pinbot and I love the theme and art/sound package on that one and let it go. TSPP is one of the best ever made. IJ is good as well though I haven't had enough time to get a real feel on it.

#22 8 years ago

I really like fish tales especially for half the price of ij .

#23 8 years ago

TSPP, IJ, FT.... the others are too far back to really matter which order.

#24 8 years ago

IJ, TSPP the others are in the farm team compared to these major league titles IMHO.

IJ, TSPP, FT, Taxi and BF

IJ and TSPP are amazing games other three titles are fun but not on the same level.
