I'm picturing a design meeting where everyone says it will shake the electronics apart. Just wondering if there is a story there.

Was literally just thinking the same thing as I watched a pin video.

First one I recall is in the Bally Harley Davidson pin. Neat revving up engine feature.

I doubt there'd be a meeting beyond the designer wanting it in there.

Games get shook up way worse in commercial use than what ever a shaker motor could do.

Didn't the shaker motor start with Earthshaker?

May have, I was going by what I recall/had.

I dunno , but it worked , it was the first thing that. Got me hooked on pinball and pulled me away from vids back when ES came along.

According to the topcast interview with Pat Lawlor it was Earthshaker.

Awesome interview btw if you haven't already heard it.

Yes. I think us home collectors underestimate how harsh commercial use can be.
Game builders have to design for the nastiest locations and abuse.
Shaker motor cranked up is pretty mild compared to drunk bikers trying to get their quarter back.

Every time I play my earthshaker I can't help but think which piece is going to fall off or which switch is going to register when it shouldn't. The shaker in that shakes the while floor of my office. The stle on the other hand I can hardly feel.
