I decided to have a go ...

AC/DC Premium ... 8 games played over 24 hours (didn't have time for 10...)

All my games are 3 ball factory settings. My AC?DC is exactly as it came out of the box in March 2012.

Actually, it really needs a flipper rebuild and new rubbers.

Wednesday 10am
183,597,550
381,369,500 ... 59m song jackpot, drained a 75m one
87,935,140 ... First two balls were house balls so a good comeback on ball 3
145,542,359 ... Real stink game, multiballs were all clangers
120,770,640 ... Arrggggggggghhh
366,158,880 .... 292m ball one. Nice. Drained with extra ball lit. Bummer
Thursday 1pm
294,776,170
38,039,780 ... First two balls were 7.9m. What a clanger.

At that stage, I had to leave ... plus, I was getting very tired, due to my adrenal fatigue which is a constant curse (but that's a story for another day...)

This was a very interesting process. The first two games were sweet, then on the third game (at circa 5m on the first two balls) I found myself really tightening up, like I do when I play in competitions. Just the stress of "playing naturally" had me mentally freaking out ... very interesting ... maybe a visit to a shrink is in order.

So anyway, on the 8 games:

Average score: 202,271,502

Standard deviation 129695491.69 (came from an online calc https://www.easycalculation.com/statistics/standard-deviation.php)

CV: 0.64

That sound right?

Quoted from maddog14:

If I did this on LOTR, I would literally be there for like 5 hours.

I wouldn't even attempt that ... We ran some average game times last year on my LOTR games and they were like 50 minutes a game.. (without blockbuster games either ...) so bugger that idea.

Plus the flipper coils would literally melt.

Quoted from iceman44:

Mental toughness is required in rugby and pinball!
How do you quit after 8 games? "Low energy"......
That's a really good average on Ac/dc

Thanks. Ironically, a few weeks ago someone asked me what my average score was on ACDC, and I said "probably 180-200m..." and their eyes popped out of their head and they said "no way..." Lol

Lowest high score on the machine is 600m and high is 790m from memory. I have never got to the wizard mode as that is not how I play the game. But the 790m score was like one shot away from it.

Quoted from Geocab:

50 minutes a game?! Yeah, I don't think that'd be a fun ten game challenge.

That's why I had to split up the ACDC games ... Those long games are about 30 minutes. Can't just stand around playing ACDC all day lol

Unlike some EMs or even some SS games ... 5 minutes is a good game.

10 games on Stern Spider-Man over a 24 hour period.

Again, stock standard 3 ball factory settings.

Quoted from Geocab:

How did you break up the ten games?

On both ACDC and spidy, I played 10 games "in a row" ie I didn't play any other games in between the games. But I played 2 or 3 games at a time, depending what I was doing. I timed a game on Spidy (I think the 4th one) and it was 21 minutes. The last three games were in a row, and they were all very similar.

Quoted from pinballcorpse:

Did you approach the game the same way each time?

I meant to mention that. On ACDC and Spidy, I played every game exactly the same.

ACDC I play the same songs every time, play the same multiballs and aim for the song jackpots. The first 3 songs are always the same, then I have a little latitude depending how I am going.

Spider-Man, I play through the modes, and try to stack them with a multiball. Doc Ock is almost always running. That's the only way I know how to play it ... One of the disadvantages of living down here is I don't get to play in tournaments every week to see other people play different strategies.

What I like to do is play exactly the same every time. So that when I play in the World Champs, I can panic and throw all that practice out the window and play every game totally differently to how I practiced it.

Next up, I'll try some more random SS games and see how I go. I think the CV will be much higher.

Quoted from Astropin:

So is this like 10 games in a row over a couple days? About the only game I would be willing to do an actual 10 in a row on would be IM. 10 in row on ST could potentially take 4-5 hours.

I think you're supposed to whack out 10 in a row ... But I broke them up, otherwise as you say your be in front of the machine for hours.

10 games in a row on IM is totally doable. I'll do that next week.

I think it is one thing to be consistent at home .. Like my results ... Then be consistent under stress, like in a competition.

That's what separates the men from the boys ... And I'm still in puberty.

That's one thing that only constant tough tournament play will get you good at. There's no way to replicate that at home. I think it was Bowen Kerins who said you learn more in one day of tough Comp play than you do in years playing at home, and he is dead right.

Stern Meteor ... Old SS Classic. What a game.

No ball saves in an SS of course ... A number of balls went flying down the middle. Nothing much you can do about that.

High score was 695000 when I started the 10 games. Knocked them all out in a row (with a phone call in the middle)

215260
103500
534930
238150
274460
496490
927490
434330
449160
423800

So again, by the end the games were very consistent.

I use this calc: http://m.calculatorsoup.com/calculators/statistics/mean-median-mode.php

Count: 10
Sum: 4097570
Mean: 409757
Median: 429065

Quoted from thedefog:

Depends on the game. Pinbot is going to be highly inconsistent. A more predictable game like LotR would yield a totally different score set.

I would say Pinbot would be a lot more consistent than say an EM. For example I played Gottlieb Atlantis last week in a comp in Australia, and on average 3-4 balls per game went SDTM or sides without me touching them. The winner of the game simply had more luck than the loser. Nature of the beast.

So next up, I'll try an EM. Bally Chicago from 1976. 3" flippers though ... Odin wouldn't be happy about that ...

Look at those gapping drains. Right next to those venomous pops. Right in front of the flippers. Crazy!

So ... Old Chicago.

Very hard to roll this particular machine. Miss the spinner ... You drain. Miss the centre bonus collect .. You drain. Very fast, unforgiving machine.

My previous best was around 140,000.

My pre game guess at average score would be 60-70k.

Old Chicago

66610,
215020, ... My best ever score by miles
63390,
120690,
57560,
66060,
47970,
80320,
86480,
70920

Sum: 875020
Mean: 87502
Median: 68765
Mode: 66610, 215020, 63390, 120690, 57560, 66060, 47970, 80320, 86480, 70920
Standard deviation: 49020.17494
CV: 0.58

Mean is higher due to the massive 215,000 score, which really was a statistical anomaly. But I'll take it.

Quoted from helicomatic:

My guess for the least consistent game was going to be BSD until I saw tmontana's WOZ scores.

Yep, BSD would be up there for sure. Like a number of the DMD games, it's all or nothing. If you can't get a multiball going, you're nothing. If you can get two or three going at the same time, you're golden.

Taxi would be one of the worse for this ... You can collect 4 passengers on one ball and get very little reward. I had a game a few weeks ago and collected 4 passengers each ball and ended up with about 100 points haha. Very frustrating.

Right, finally got around to some more scores.

I picked up a routed Stern Star Trek Pro a few months back. Haven't really played Star Trek a lot, to be honest the first code was pretty boring but the newest version is a lot better.

I just read the "Star Trek tips and strategies" thread, I learnt a few things there I didn't know when I played these 10 games.

All these games are the same strategy, play all the level one modes and try and get to Kobioshi Maru. You can see by the scores which ones I got to KB on and which I didn't... Personally, I think any score under 100m is a fail. I was surprised how many times I failed. LOL.

Like all my games, the game is total factory settings on 3 balls. So you get an extra ball lit on Warp 4.

279,187,380
221,000,100
75,060,830
56,385,080
233,727,390
51,905,810
107,042,780
200,260,200
113,658,360
238,989,390

Mean 157721732
Median 156959280
Standard deviation 85477584
CV 0.54

High CV! What was a bummer was that on two of the lower scores, EB was lit and I missed it both times, hit the target next to the Vengeance and STDM. Twice. Arggg.

Bringing it back!!

I've got in a habit of playing just one or two games, so I'm back to trying ten in a row.

First up ... Stern Star Trek (again)

Game is factory settings, but set up tough. Extra ball at 3 warp ramps.

93,221,840
58,033,060 - coffee required, and obtained.
129,722,320
64,691,680 - good fight back from 10m on ball 3
320,664,330 - KB plus Warp 9.1 2x before the start of the mode.
116,330,760
74,038,410 - crappy game
257,741,750 - good game, 9.1 before KB
86,261,280 - KB lit and tilted last ball
108,171,550 - last mode before KB

Overall pretty crappy, only 2 decent games out of 10. The other day I got to KB three games in a row.

Edit: game 11 was 258,593,200 ... trending upwards lol

GOT Pro.

Set up fast and mean as Pincade competitors can attest.

Factory software, so extra ball at 3 houses.

973,372,770
1,776,938,510 - Hand of the King
3,017,029,010 - HOTK, good game
822,734,800
492,353,529 - ouch
1,647,861,200 - HOTK (stink one)
792,645,390 - messy game!
457,874,820 - ripped off by Lord of Light bug! doooh
1,839,687,330 - HOTK
1,280,836,130 - HOTK and got ripped off by the ball lock bug which stops HOTK with two balls in play.

So 5x HOTK (and one lit) in 10 games.

Those lower score games, I generally hit the lock shots and they go screaming out the outlanes. And occasionally the right LOL doesn't give you a ball back! Doooooh GOT can be a nasty game.

I need to improve my multiball play, and this game is a good one to practice on because it is fast and furious. Sometimes, too fast and furious for me!

rd

#123 6 years ago
Quoted from wxforecaster:

I have never had a lit LOL not give me the ball back. Unless there's a thread with a known bug and way to reproduce it, I think you have an intermittent switch issue. Nice scores though! Are you always starting with the same house?

I don't follow the GOT thread closely but I saw it mentioned there.

Occasionally the ball will sail down the right LOL and the sound plays, the light goes off (so the switch is working ok) and the ball just ends. Bummer. Happens at the end of multiball more often.

Yes, I should have added that all those games were much the same.
Playing as House Tyrell, play Tyrell, Lannister/Greyjoy with BWMB, then Stark into HOTK.

I miss the AAB from Martel, but the added scoring in each round makes up for it. I wish I could get the monster HOTK scores that some people get, but my MB play isn't at the level of those guys. Work in progress!

Americas Most Haunted

This game was brutal tough out of the box ... so I left it like that. Hey, you can adjust all the coils to make the slings less grunty, the scoop kick out less grunty ... but where is the challenge in that?

It's so tough nobody has got to the wizard mode. I've got very close 3 times, with top scores around 250m.

Sometimes I'll play against someone and record their score too.

38,243,810
10,349,130
27,211,990
28,681,800
74,473,270 (vs 11,500,000)
18,834,350 (vs 14,495,880)
78,318,300 - 3 ghosts complete
50,258,910
83,530,980

Generally a 20m score will win 9/10 Comp games on this machine. It's tough!

"Next week we will stand around in the dark, whispering some more ... on Americas Most Haunted!"

rd

#126 6 years ago
Quoted from Guinnesstime:

First score the best. Looks like I need to practice LESS?

Haha! Sometimes that's the way.

You can see how brutal TWD is when it throws up those odd low scores. Sometimes I get the feed from the pops SDTM two times in a row, ruins your game. I'll do TWD soon, just doing XMen now.

rd

#127 6 years ago

XMen LE

Factory settings but very tight competition tilt. I tilted out about 5-6 times in these games.

XMen is tough like TWD, you can get random magnet throws that go flinging down the sides.

92,711,810 (vs 15,944,280)
39,338,170 (vs 19,110,800) (had everything set up for a massive multiball dooohhh)
67,986,200
39,299,250
128,668,770
321,305,640 - DARK PHOENIXXXXXX!!
35,064,580 - came back from two houseballs and zero points so very satisfying
230,592,870 - almost got Dark Phoenix again!
43,810,860 (back from 3m after 2 balls) vs Danni's 40,085,200 haha
65,777,470 (back from again, only 3 million after 2 house balls) to Danni's 46,178,040.

Those last two games were very pleasing as that is what I am trying to achieve with my practicing, to mentally come back from a disastrous situation. Usually in competition I collapse like a instant pudding. Very pleasing improvement.

rd

#129 6 years ago
Quoted from Guinnesstime:

SO many XMLE's for sale near me (seriously probably 6) and it's tempting. None have the Wolverine fix sadly. I've played only 3 games on it three years ago though. Just don't have a handle on whether I'd like it. It's tempting.

Great game.

You don't need to swap out Wolverine. In fact I would leave it stock for a while until you get used to it. My Captive ball mod is the prototype I plastic printed, but you can get one for $70 from Mezelmods. It's a great improvement. Even if it does make Wolvie tougher.

rd

#130 6 years ago

The Walking Dead Pro

Factory settings, tight tilt, plays mean. Like most Walking Deads.

49,231,010 vs Danni's 55,629,220
104,220,860 vs Danni's 100,680,350 (her coming back from 10m after 2 balls!)
190,713,760 vs Fiona's 11,066,910
156,499,740 vs Fiona's 10,592,800
96,584,820 vs Fiona's 25,902,000
200,272,130 vs Fiona's 13,588,740 (cue her Pinball Touretts! Lol)
405,603,800 - HORDDDDEEE! 120m!!

Dinner Time! Really!

9,105,900 - literally 3 balls either SDTM or out the sides - vs Fiona's 73,601,020.
51,314,230 vs Fiona's 5,272,880 (roles reversed!)
140,897,270 vs Fiona's 48,247,210

As we were saying a few posts back, TWD is one of those games, no matter who you are, can smash 3 balls right back in your face. It's just a question of how well you can bounce back from it.

rd

Ironman

Set to competition settings. Tight tilt, minimal ball save, no extra balls, a sweet shot to the ramps just trickles over the top ... or straight back at you ...

17,362,420
14,270,590
60,933,280 - 30m do or die
16,024,370 - coming back from 2m on ball 2, nice
32,650,140 - Jericho
19,852,450 vs Danni's 4,327,570
17,512,600
18,629,490
19,235,420 -- do or die and Jericho lit ... dooooh
79,950,710 --- 31m Do or Die and into Jericho. Nice

Last game was satisfying. This pin is one which you can get 3m as many times as 20m. As I have done many times before ...

rd

#134 6 years ago
Quoted from aobrien5:

You make me sick.
(By which I mean, I wish my scores at league looked like that!)

I wish mine did too. Haha!

I think the last competition on this machine, I got 4000 and 7000 .. and lost. Lol.

I'm really working on trying to be the same in competition as I am when I am not. It's very hard to do. The guys that can do it are champion players. The best I have done is 7th at IFPA Pinmasters, which was cool ... 50s at IFPA world champs and a couple of 70ths in PAPA A with the flu ... but I want to be making the playoffs consistently. It's all mental application. I got the mental ... I need the application.

rd

#136 6 years ago
Quoted from aobrien5:

Yeah, I hear you. I tend to qualify pretty well, then tank in finals.
I didn't keep track, but I just played a bunch of games on my BSD which ranged from 7B (a new personal best) to 30M.
Your consistency is admirable, and a few steps above mine!

7b? that's off the charts ...!

nice

rd

#138 6 years ago
Quoted from aobrien5:

Yeah, 73 loops. EBs are on though.
Factory settings.

That's some loops! My BSD barely makes it around the ramp. If it doesn't make it, it comes back down at 500mph SDTM. That's always good for some lols.

I should wind the legs back down a little.

Now that's a game that can kick your ass. All or nothing.

rd

#139 6 years ago

Shrek

Factory settings, but centre post disabled. Has a playfield protector on it so it is pretty fast. GC was only 79m (machine was rebuilt recently)

61,336,010
45,580,810
63,793,480
98,137,550 --- new GC
55,569,110 vs Fiona's 9,502,850
17,737,989 --- oooops
52,062,930
45,328,370
43,541,630
34,932,830

Last game was good, had 5m after 2 balls and slowly worked towards Donkey MB and nailed a good one to get 34m in the end.

Rob Zombie

This game has lots of crazy action, so scores are going to fluctuate wildly.

11,346,370
31,064,560
76,032,840 --- 1000 corpses completed
16,437,720
11,409,560
19,707,140

And that's all I got done ... the coder Fawz sent me some more code to test so that's all! Haha

It makes a huge difference to score if you can complete House of 1000 Corpes, as you can see.

There are further updates coming to RZ, including some cool scoring updates for the modes to balance things out.

KISS Pro

I've come to the realisation I probably have my games set up too hard. Haha!

KISS is a good example. To get a big score, you need to complete 2 songs, and then 2x PF lights. But drain, its gone. You have to complete 2 more songs for 3x. On a tough game, inevitably you light the 2x then instadrain. Lol

Mind you, no point having them set up too easy. That'd get boring quick.

Anyway, there was new code for KISS the other day, so here we go!

31,928,500
67,781,110
152,036,590
49,165,420
67,883,900
52,893,690
55,000,000 vs Danni's 20m
94,162,510
47,126,330
340,679,920 <--- new GC!

Bram Stokers Dracula

Everyone knows what a nasty game BSD is ... Danni's least favourite game.

338,777,460 vs Danni's 148m
665,433,600 vs Danni's 152m
196,457,170 vs Danni's 36m <--- its nasty!
509,608,720 vs Danni's 44,999,400 (Danni storms off ...)
302,309,360
58,680,900 <---- its nasty!
1,333,501,860 <---- 30 miiillllllionnnnn
658,614,340
619,731,240
169,012,280

No multiballs = no score!

On the 58m and 169m games, I started Mist, hit the ball and the two balls stuck magnetically together as they glided sweetly across the playfield. Lollll
