Thanks for posting your scores on some games you really don't see that often. BTW, I love Time Fantasy! One of my favorite from that time period.

#52 8 years ago

Thanks for the compliment on Time Fantasy! All the others were reasonably priced and fun or just flat out a "really good deal", so I picked 'em up. Time Fantasy, however, I paid over double the price of any of the others. Eventually I would love for my collection to be all games that less than a thousand were made of (so far I gots two!)...

I did another run of 10 games on Tron. I was really pleased to average almost 30M. This Tron is set up really difficult(very steep, super tight tilt, playfield clean and waxed).

Tron Pro:
11,710,000
10,630,000
9,947,000
12,294,000
46,218,000
12,001,000
21,306,000
67,238,000
77,198,000
31,444,000

Average score: 29,998,000

#54 8 years ago

Nice scores! Especially with a tight tilt. I like the game, but I've never been close to those scores. I think my highest is 30 million.

Spinner skill shot:
When the ball leaves the shooter lane, the spinner arrow will flash a short time (10 seconds) or until one of the 1 - 6 standups are hit.
If you hit the spinner during this time, the spinner will score 5,000 points.

Firepower multiball and award sequence:
1) Multiball starts. "Fire 1... Fire 2... Fire 3..." (as normal).
2) Middle stand up target banks are reset (all strobing)
3) Player must hit all 6 standups. Accomplishing this enables all three locks (green "lock" arrows are flashing) and throws in an uncalled sound effect to signal for next step.
4) Player must shoot all 3 balls *back* into the enabled lock holes during multiball to score a 60,000 point award. CPU makes speech call: "Firepower Mission Accomplished".
5) Multiball restarts (back to step #1)

The coin specific settings are removed, you get 1 credit for the left or right coinslot and 4 credits for the center coin slot. The coin counters are also disabled.

I wasn't able to play the Meet Your Maker multiball today, so the game 17 was pretty good with some extra balls and plenty of jackpots.

I finally had enough time to start this. I got through WCS. Standard settings, except Special awards an extra ball. I only collected that once, during the game that became my new GC. Here are my results:

3,462,467,250 - HS #4, Goal Champ: 11

Very nice scores. My best ever on WCS was 8Bil. But I know if I played ten games on it, I'm bound to have some stinkers like 100-225M.

#65 8 years ago

I agree, really nice WCS scores!

I need to do another run at this, my scores lately have seemed to have dropped all across the board. I feel as if I have already peaked with my pinball and am now on my downhill slide.

I'd call your second run slightly better. You were missing the big scores, but your median increased from 165,625 to 177,230. As you stated, it was much more consistent than the first run as the standard deviation went from 230,378 down to 104,340. When going head to head it's just as important to avoid the clunker as it is to put up a huge game.

STTNG: Games 1.- 10. Sucked. Average: Suckey.

#69 8 years ago

I did another run of 10 on Met premium last night. I'm going in the wrong direction. Not consistent and average around 45M.

1. 34,812,000

Let's see if theres any consistency in ten sets

My biggest high score

5 months later
#73 8 years ago

It's been awhile since I did a ten game run so I'm about due to give it another go. I came up with more categories to keep track of to help show where I am with consistency and also see if I'm improving at the same time, feel free to do the same or not. If everyone at least calculates CV (explained below) I think we can see how we compare to each other with regards to consistency. I'm going to go back and edit my previous posts to include the following info: (If I'm wrong in the following explanations, feel free to correct me.)

MEDIAN: The higher number, the better when comparing to your other attempts on the same game. This number is your two middle results (5 and 6 if playing ten games) divided by 2. I like this number because over time it can show if you are getting better scores, even if your average drops. My second Firepower results in this thread had my median go up, but my average dropped because I didn't have as good a high scores as the first time through, but my scores were more consistent.

STANDARD DEVIATION: The lower the number, the better when comparing to your other attempts on the same game. When this number goes down, it means your scores are more consistent. I used an online calculator for this. If we take this one step further, we can compare results to each other (or even your own consistency across different games) by calculating CV. (Explained below)

CV = is coefficient of variance: The lower the number, the more consistent your scores are. After doing some research on the Internet and talking with one of my friends whom I consider very intelligent, I feel this is a good number to help compare the results of everyone who participates in this thread since we're all playing on different machines with different rule sets, conditions, have different skill levels, etc. My purpose of this thread was to see how I compared to everyone else where it came to how inconsistent my scores are. This should help illustrate that. For those like me who don't know how to find CV

CV = Standard Deviation/Average Score

AVERAGE: Everyone knows this one, but in the off chance you don't it's the average score of your ten game run. Calculated by adding all ten scores together and then dividing by ten.

HIGHEST: Your highest score in the ten game run.

LOWEST: Your lowest score in the ten game run.

#74 8 years ago
Quoted from SkeebWilcox:

Did your ten game "consistency test" down in my basement over a three day period. All games three balls, no extra balls (basically "tournament settings") aside from Hollywood Heat, which was three ball with the EB on:
Tri-Zone:
1. 360,940
2. 254,900
3. 69,570
4. 186,240
5. 69,700
6. 79,650
7. 362,120
8. 265,250
9. 220,850

5. 152,140
6. 152,170
7. 170,190
8. 157,250
9. 226,290
10. 792,420
Hollywood Heat:
1. 460,950
2. 263,450
3. 622,020
4. 253,240
5. 273,360
6. 969,110
7. 434,600
8. 822,540
9. 1,442,050
10. 609,360
Cybernaut:
1. 1,010,390
2. 5,027,130 (all-time 3 ball high score for me)
3. 1,418,270
4. 548,230
5. 491,190
6. 174,170
7. 354,800
8. 798,820
9. 1,547,020
10. 695,400
Mousin' Around:
1. 1,590,240
2. 1,666,130
3. 1,106,620
4. 2,890,840
5. 2,347, 340
6. 1,705,180
7. 1,580,140
8. 1,212,250
9. 3,253,000
10. 2,530,140
Now, do I get a free interpretation of my consistency and abilities or just the complimentary "take home version" of our game?

Here is your free interpretation of your consistency and abilities:

Mousin' Around was by far your most consistent run with a CV of 36%. Very well done!

Your epic game on Cybernaut skewed your numbers a bit and gives you a CV of 117%, way above your other runs. However, if you take it out of the equation, your CV drops down to 60%.

Time Fantasy clocks in at a CV of 78%.

Tri-zone at a CV of 60%.

And finally Hollywood Heat comes in with a CV of 61%.

Average CV of your 5 runs with epic Cybernaut score = 70.4%.
Average of your 5 runs without epic score = 59%.

After my first run of my 6 machines and doing Firepower a second time my results were pretty INCONSISTENT. Pretty ironic since that's why I began this thread.

CV's:

Firepower (1st run) - 82%
Sorcerer - 63%
F-14 - 110% (ouch)
Getaway - 72%
Demolition Man - 41% (happy with this)
Bride of Pinbot - 84%
Firepower (2nd run) - 52%

Average CV's for my first run-through = 72%

7 more months experience since I started this thread, I'm looking forward to doing this again and see if I can improve my numbers.

I'd like to give this a try this week.

Only one way to find out...

#82 8 years ago

I decided to have a go ...

AC/DC Premium ... 8 games played over 24 hours (didn't have time for 10...)

All my games are 3 ball factory settings. My AC?DC is exactly as it came out of the box in March 2012.

Actually, it really needs a flipper rebuild and new rubbers.

Wednesday 10am
183,597,550
381,369,500 ... 59m song jackpot, drained a 75m one
87,935,140 ... First two balls were house balls so a good comeback on ball 3
145,542,359 ... Real stink game, multiballs were all clangers
120,770,640 ... Arrggggggggghhh
366,158,880 .... 292m ball one. Nice. Drained with extra ball lit. Bummer
Thursday 1pm
294,776,170
38,039,780 ... First two balls were 7.9m. What a clanger.

At that stage, I had to leave ... plus, I was getting very tired, due to my adrenal fatigue which is a constant curse (but that's a story for another day...)

This was a very interesting process. The first two games were sweet, then on the third game (at circa 5m on the first two balls) I found myself really tightening up, like I do when I play in competitions. Just the stress of "playing naturally" had me mentally freaking out ... very interesting ... maybe a visit to a shrink is in order.

So anyway, on the 8 games:

Average score: 202,271,502

Standard deviation 129695491.69 (came from an online calc https://www.easycalculation.com/statistics/standard-deviation.php)

CV: 0.64

That sound right?

I wouldn't even attempt that ... We ran some average game times last year on my LOTR games and they were like 50 minutes a game.. (without blockbuster games either ...) so bugger that idea.

Plus the flipper coils would literally melt.

Mental toughness is required in rugby and pinball!

How do you quit after 8 games? "Low energy"......

That's a really good average on Ac/dc

Thanks. Ironically, a few weeks ago someone asked me what my average score was on ACDC, and I said "probably 180-200m..." and their eyes popped out of their head and they said "no way..." Lol

Lowest high score on the machine is 600m and high is 790m from memory. I have never got to the wizard mode as that is not how I play the game. But the 790m score was like one shot away from it.

Quoted from rotordave:

I wouldn't even attempt that ... We ran some average game times last year on my LOTR games and they were like 50 minutes a game.. (without blockbuster games either ...) so bugger that idea.
Plus the flipper coils would literally melt.

50 minutes a game?! Yeah, I don't think that'd be a fun ten game challenge.

That's why I had to split up the ACDC games ... Those long games are about 30 minutes. Can't just stand around playing ACDC all day lol

Unlike some EMs or even some SS games ... 5 minutes is a good game.

Ten games on The Shadow, factory settings, wide outlanes, playing Vengeance strategy:

1. 414 508 900
2. 199 398 860
3. 250 522 660
4. 1 042 461 650
5. 919 574 290
6. 441 411 650
7. 1 054 860 990
8. 1 925 274 400
9. 2 369 081 760
10. 304 960 660

Median: 680 492 970
Average: 892 205 582
Highest: 2 369 081 760
Lowest: 199 398 860
S.D.: 742 831 007
C.V.: 83%

C.V. is surprisingly low considering half the games were <442M and the other half were >918M. What is obvious is that the longer I played the better my scores got (this was one continuous session without warming up/practicing first. A couple of those early scores were disgraceful). This probably says more about The Shadow than it does about my consistency; once you get those ramps dialled in your scores skyrocket.

10 games on Stern Spider-Man over a 24 hour period.

Again, stock standard 3 ball factory settings.

You are one very good pinball player! Those Spiderman scores are great! 36% is really good as well. How did you break up the ten games? While your scores are pretty consistent, the last 4 are very consistent.

@rd

Did you approach the game the same way each time? Sometimes in SM for example, I just play to see how high I can score just playing the spinner strategy: light the shot multiplier on the spinner and focus there-not trying for Battle Royale or Super hero etc.

Just curious.

Nice run BTW.

Guy's got 121 machines. I would hope so...

Quoted from Geocab:

How did you break up the ten games?

On both ACDC and spidy, I played 10 games "in a row" ie I didn't play any other games in between the games. But I played 2 or 3 games at a time, depending what I was doing. I timed a game on Spidy (I think the 4th one) and it was 21 minutes. The last three games were in a row, and they were all very similar.

Quoted from pinballcorpse:

Did you approach the game the same way each time?

I meant to mention that. On ACDC and Spidy, I played every game exactly the same.

ACDC I play the same songs every time, play the same multiballs and aim for the song jackpots. The first 3 songs are always the same, then I have a little latitude depending how I am going.

Spider-Man, I play through the modes, and try to stack them with a multiball. Doc Ock is almost always running. That's the only way I know how to play it ... One of the disadvantages of living down here is I don't get to play in tournaments every week to see other people play different strategies.

What I like to do is play exactly the same every time. So that when I play in the World Champs, I can panic and throw all that practice out the window and play every game totally differently to how I practiced it.

Next up, I'll try some more random SS games and see how I go. I think the CV will be much higher.

I just played 10 games on GOT LE in under an hour. And that's all you really need to know about my scores, so there's no need to post them here.

But yeah...they were pretty consistent.

Nice average on SM!!! my problem...always seems to be a stinker in the middle somewhere that kills my average...I live in the 165-200 range, w some better and worse scattered in...

So is this like 10 games in a row over a couple days? About the only game I would be willing to do an actual 10 in a row on would be IM. 10 in row on ST could potentially take 4-5 hours.

I think you're supposed to whack out 10 in a row ... But I broke them up, otherwise as you say your be in front of the machine for hours.

10 games in a row on IM is totally doable. I'll do that next week.

I was aiming for ten in a row to see how consistent you are when playng a table. However, play them how you'd like like Dave did. I'm not as good a player where my games will last for 50 minutes like the LOTR example earlier in the thread. But this is for fun, so it's not like you're stuck with strict guidelines. Not playing other machines in between though is pretty important.

#99 8 years ago

I would say that there could be breaks in between games. Think of a tournament setting where the wait could be an hour in between tries.

I have been using the "Pin Score Saver" App for this. I believe it was created by a Pinsider. I just record my score from the first game of the day. I think this simulates a tournament setting best when you have to walk up and play a game without getting dialed in.

This app is pretty cool. I wish it also charted a 4-point running average to smooth out the inconsistencies.image.pngimage.pngimage.pngimage.png
